Kendrick didn't look at her. "How long has she been here?"
"Seven years. Since the collapse of Site Delta."
"Why didn't you tell me?"
Sophia's expression remained neutral. "You weren't cleared. Neither was Cassius until two years ago."
Kendrick exhaled. "She was part of the original trial?"
Sophia nodded. "Subject 7-E. First generation Helix."
He turned to her. "And she's still alive?"
"Technically. But the serum's effects mutated over time. Her survival is... conditional."
Kendrick leaned against the glass, forehead touching the cool surface. "I knew this project wasn't over."
