Chapter 345 - Extra Ch 2 : The darkness emerges

"Not good!"

Seeing the figures inside the train disappear, both Jason and Kadi immediately sensed that something was wrong.

Even they, as slow-witted as they were, realized they had been tricked.

They quickly tried to escape, but their movements were a step too slow.

In the face of Noel and Laxus—both masters of speed—the difficulty of their escape was as impossible as reaching the sky.

The moment they turned around, two chains formed of white light shot out from behind them at high speed, wrapping around them tightly.

At the other end of the chains, Noel barely exerted any force, and Jason and Kadi were immediately sent crashing to the ground.

"It's better to be honest. I don't really like using violence unless necessary," Noel said with a squinted gaze.

Standing to the side with arms crossed, Laxus looked a bit disinterested as he watched the two fall to the ground.

He reached down and picked up the magic bomb, casually flipping it in his hand.

"I thought I could stretch my legs before we reached Anphel, but it turns out you're just a couple of small fry with some tricks? What a waste of time."

"How did you find us? My concealment magic should have been flawless," Jason asked in disbelief.

His magic specialized in eliminating magical fluctuations and presence.

Without a corresponding counter-magic, it should have been impossible to detect.

"We didn't notice at first, but you can blame yourselves for being so stupid. You were chatting so casually so close to us. Do you think that just because there are some obstructions, we couldn't detect you?" Laxus said disdainfully, then turned to look at Noel.

"What do you plan to do with these two? I don't think they're of any use."

"Well, don't be like that. At least we can get some information out of them." Noel shrugged and, after saying that to Laxus, squatted down to look at the tall and short men.

"Go on, who sent you?"

"Hmph, you think you can get anything out of us? You're dreaming. Enjoy your little victory now, but no matter how many of you there are, the Archbishop and the Guardian will definitely tear you to pieces. We…" the man named Kadi sneered.

"Archbishop, Guardian?" Noel's lips curled slightly.

"Looks like our enemies this time are from some dark cult, huh, Laxus?"

"A cult? That wasn't mentioned in the mission details. Seems like it could be troublesome." Laxus shook his head.

"You have no idea what our cult has been working on for over a decade—this is a great undertaking that will put the world in our hands," Jason, completely forgetting his captive state, said with a fervent look.

"This is a greatness like no other, a power that no human can resist. The Archbishop will lead us to a truly free and magnificent world!!"

"..." Noel and Laxus exchanged a glance, both furrowing their brows slightly.

"Is your cult's goal related to Zeref?" Noel asked cautiously.

Currently, the dark cults on the continent, though studying strange things, almost all revered Zeref as their figurehead, conducting research into dark magic.

That's why Noel asked.

"Zeref? His time has long passed. He was just a human in the end. What we pursue is something far greater!!"

Seeing their reaction, Noel helplessly shook his head. "They've been brainwashed. Laxus, we..."

Suddenly, Noel's pupils contracted.

He saw the purple magical symbols flashing on Kadi and Jason's chests.

.................

Boom!

A violent explosion sounded from the top of the train, creating a massive hole in the train's roof.

The train was immediately thrown into chaos; the sound of frantic footsteps and terrified screams filled the air.

The train quickly braked, sparks flying from the wheels as the harsh sound of metal grinding echoed through the air.

Not far away, on a hilltop, Noel and Laxus stood side by side.

However, they no longer appeared as carefree and nonchalant as before.

Their clothes were torn and scorched, and their hair was disheveled.

Both looked quite disheveled.

"We've been played," Noel said, running a hand through his messy hair and letting out a sigh.

"That was ruthless," Laxus said with a grim expression.

"They actually set up a self-destruction magic array above us."

If they hadn't reacted quickly and moved fast enough, being caught by the self-destruction magic array so close would have been disastrous.

They'd probably be half-dead, even if they survived.

Noel's expression became slightly more serious.

"From what we saw earlier, they couldn't have set up the self-destruction magic array right under our noses. Their actions and expressions also suggest that they were unaware of the self-destruction array on them. So, the only explanation is that the time-triggered explosion was set before they even arrived here."

"A silencing tactic?"

"It's likely a two-pronged approach. If their magic bomb could destroy us, then the self-destruction magic array would serve to silence us. If they failed to do that and were captured, they could still drag us down with them."

Noel and Laxus both fell silent.

They both understood that the opponents in this mission were absolutely ruthless.

They would stop at nothing to achieve their goals, and that was not good news.

"Anyway, let's head to Anphel first. After all this trouble, it seems the train won't be able to continue for a while. We're only a short distance from Anphel, so we should just go directly. What do you think, Laxus?"

"Yeah, I was thinking the same thing."

...............

In a distant place.

In a dark hall, a figure dressed in a black robe with their face hidden beneath a hood silently stared at a crystal ball in front of them.

Inside the crystal ball, the images of Noel and Laxus appeared.

"This time, the mage who came to Anphel seems quite formidable. They actually managed to avoid the attack I had planned... Heh."

The figure let out a cold laugh, which sounded sharp and harsh, like the cry of an owl in the night.

"However, this small trick is far from impressive. No matter what, with just the two of them, they can't stop anything. The tides have already turned, and no one can change that. What do you think, Dogossis?"

A low, muffled growl echoed in response, as if answering the figure's words.

Unbothered by the growl, the figure shifted their gaze to the center of the hall, where a small spring of pale yellow water bubbled up as if boiling, emitting an ominous and foreboding aura.

"Just a little more time, and it will be complete. When everything succeeds, destruction will descend upon this decayed world. The order of the world will be remade, and the greatest, most exalted being will become the ruler of this world. Hahahahaha!"

The figure raised both hands and laughed maniacally, tilting their head back.
