Chapter 251 - Chapter 250: Giant Tanuki

--- Konoha Forests - Sector G ---

The forest groaned, a deep, tectonic sound of agony that vibrated through the soles of every living thing for miles.

Ancient trees, guardians of the leaf for centuries, were snapped like dry toothpicks. Roots as thick as pythons were upended, tearing clods of soil into the air, while the very earth was scarred with a deep, jagged trench that stretched for half a mile… a wound carved by the invisible hand of a wind god. At the end of this path of absolute destruction lay a crater, smoking, vitrified, and reeking of sulfur and old blood.

Inside the crater, a mountain of sand shifted, defying the laws of gravity as it roiled and bubbled like boiling water.

"GAAAAAAH! THAT HURT! THAT REALLY HURT!"

A monstrous, screeching voice echoed through the trees, a sound so high-pitched and laden with chakra that it shattered nearby stones and sent flocks of birds scattering into the sky in a panic. The sand coalesced, rising up to form a terrifying shape, blocking out the sun. It wasn't just an arm or a tail anymore.

It was the beast itself.

Standing nearly fifty meters tall, the One-Tailed Tanuki, Shukaku, stretched its massive, sandy limbs, cracking its back with a sound like a collapsing building. Its bulbous body was covered in intricate violet curse markings that pulsed with a dark, erratic rhythm, and its eyes… black stars floating in a sea of jaundiced yellow… gleamed with pure, unadulterated madness.

"FINALLY!" Shukaku roared, slapping its enormous belly. The sound was like a clap of thunder rolling across the plains. "I'M OUT! I'M FREE! THE BRAT IS ASLEEP! TIME TO PLAY! TIME TO KILL!"

The Tanuki looked down, its massive head swiveling with unnatural speed. Its eyes zoomed in on the small, insignificant figures racing through the tree line toward him… ants rushing to challenge a hurricane.

"Oh?" Shukaku grinned, a wide, jagged expression filled with razor-sharp sand teeth that promised nothing but pain. "Little bugs? Coming to play with me? How brave. How stupid."

It crouched low, its massive tail sweeping behind it, leveling a patch of oak trees as if they were grass blades.

"GOOD! I NEED TO KILL SOMEONE TO FIX MY MOOD! THAT BLONDE GUY HIT ME TOO HARD! I'M GONNA GRIND YOUR BONES TO DUST!"

"There he is!" Sasuke shouted, landing on a high branch, his sandals gripping the bark tightly.

He looked up at the towering beast, his neck craning back. His breath hitched for a second, a cold sweat breaking out on his brow. Seeing a Tailed Beast up close was a primal experience; the chakra density alone made the air taste like heavy metal and static electricity. It felt less like a creature and more like a natural disaster given form.

"That's... Gaara?" Sakura gasped, arriving a second later with Naruto and Shikamaru. She covered her mouth, her knees trembling violently as she stared at the titan. "He turned into a monster! How are we supposed to fight that?"

"Don't get scared, Sakura-chan!" Naruto yelled, clenching his fists, though his legs were shaking just as hard. "We gotta stop him before he goes back to the village! If we run, everyone dies!"

"Scatter!" Sasuke commanded, his voice cutting through the fear.

He didn't wait for a plan. He couldn't afford to hesitation. The purified Curse Mark on his neck flared hot, a searing brand against his skin. Black flame patterns raced across his face and arms, turning his sclera pitch black and his irises a glowing, predatory yellow. Power that was intoxicating, sharp, and overwhelming flooded his veins, erasing his fatigue and replacing it with adrenaline.

"Chidori!" He channeled everything into his left hand. The blue lightning screamed to life, louder and brighter than ever before, sounding like a flock of birds shrieking in a storm.

Sasuke launched himself. He became a black-and-blue streak of lightning, tearing through the air.

"DIE!" Sasuke roared, his voice distorted by the Curse Mark's influence.

He aimed for one of the beast's legs, intending to hamstring it, to bring the titan down to their level. The Chidori sang its thousand-bird song, vibrating the very air around him.

BOOM.

The lightning blade collided with the massive limb, piercing the sandy hide with an explosion of sparks and fused glass.

"GYAHAHAHA! THAT TICKLES!" Shukaku laughed, the sound booming from above.

The beast didn't even flinch. The sand simply shifted around the wound, flowing like liquid to trap Sasuke's arm in a crushing grip.

"Huh!?" Sasuke's eyes widened in horror. His lightning, capable of piercing steel, was being swallowed whole.

"GOTCHA!" Shukaku swung his massive arm, a limb the size of a tower, aiming to swat the Uchiha out of existence.

Sasuke ripped his hand free just in time, skin tearing, and kicked off the beast's knee to backflip away. A split second later, a sandy claw smashed the branch he had been standing on, obliterating the tree entirely in a cloud of splinters.

"Shadow Clone Jutsu!"

POOF. POOF. POOF. POOF. POOF. POOF. POOF. POOF. POOF. POOF. POOF. POOF. POOF. POOF. POOF. POOF. POOF. POOF. POOF. POOF. POOF. POOF. POOF. POOF. POOF. POOF. POOF. POOF. POOF. POOF. POOF. POOF. POOF. POOF. POOF. POOF. POOF. POOF. POOF. POOF. POOF. POOF.

A thousand Narutos exploded into existence, filling the sky like a swarm of angry orange hornets. The sheer number blocked out the view of the forest, a sea of orange jumpsuits screaming in unison.

"You big, sand-bellied jerk!" The real Naruto screamed, his eyes slitted vertically and bleeding red as Kurama's chakra leaked out, responding to the hateful presence of another Tailed Beast. "Take this! Uzumaki Naruto One-Thousand Combo!"

The clones coated themselves in faint, bubbling red chakra. They descended on Shukaku from all angles—punching, kicking, biting, clawing. They were ants swarming a beetle, desperate and relentless.

"ANNOYING FLIES!" Shukaku swiped his tail, a massive sweeping motion that generated hurricane-force winds.

POP-POP-POP-POP.

Hundreds of clones were destroyed in a single swing, vanishing in clouds of white smoke. But for every clone destroyed, two more punched him in the face, kicked his eyes, or grabbed his fur.

"Now! Rasengan!"

Naruto, the real one, fell from the sky, a chain of clones propelling him downward like a human missile. A swirling sphere of blue chakra, dense and unstable, ground into his palm.

He slammed it directly onto the top of Shukaku's massive head.

GRIND!

The Rasengan dug into the sand, drilling a hole with a screeching sound. Sand sprayed outward like geysers.

"OW! OKAY, THAT ONE ACTUALLY STUNG!" Shukaku shrieked, his eyes widening in genuine irritation.

The beast shook his head violently, throwing Naruto off like a wet dog shaking off water.

Sasuke and Naruto landed next to each other in a clearing, skidding through the dirt. They were panting heavily, sweat dripping from their chins. They had thrown their strongest attacks, their trump cards, within the first minute of the fight.

"Did we... did we get him?" Naruto asked between gasps, wiping blood from a cut on his cheek.

"His armor is too thick," Sasuke gritted his teeth, clutching his numb wrist where the lightning recoil had damaged his nerves. "And he's huge. We're fighting a mountain that hits back."

Shukaku stopped laughing. The beast loomed over them, blotting out the sun, casting a long, terrifying shadow over the clearing. Its playful demeanor shifted into something colder, something ancient and cruel.

"Boring," Shukaku hissed, his voice dropping to a low rumble that vibrated in their chests. "You bugs sting, but you don't bite. I'm tired of playing."

The Tanuki opened its massive maw. Wind chakra began to gather, sucking in the air from the surrounding forest. Leaves, branches, and loose stones were pulled toward the gaping mouth as the energy compressed into a sphere of terrifying density.

"Wind Style: Drilling Air Bullet!"

He didn't fire one. He fired a machine-gun volley.

THOOM-THOOM-THOOM!

Massive cannonballs of compressed air, invisible but deadly, slammed into the forest floor.

"Dodge!" Sasuke screamed, pushing Naruto aside.

They tried. They scrambled, leaped, and rolled. But the area of effect was too large. The bullets were the size of houses.

An air bullet exploded right between them. The shockwave was like being hit by a solid wall of iron moving at supersonic speeds. The ground erupted, throwing soil and trees into the air.

"GUH!"

"ARGH!"

Sasuke and Naruto were blasted backward like leaves in a gale. They smashed through three consecutive trees, wood splintering against their backs, before hitting the ground and bouncing like ragdolls.

They lay there in the dirt, groaning. Sasuke's curse mark receded, his body too exhausted to maintain the transformation. His chakra was dangerously low. Naruto tried to stand, but his legs gave out, his vision swimming with black spots.

"No..." Sakura whispered from her hiding spot behind a root, tears forming in her eyes. "Sasuke-kun... Naruto..."

A newly arrived Shikamaru was frozen, his shadow possession jutsu useless against a target of this scale. "Checkmate. We can't fight that. It's a monster."

The other Genin who had followed, Kiba with a whimpering Akamaru tucked in his jacket, Ino, and Choji, arrived just in time to see their two strongest peers laid out flat, broken and defeated.

"They lost?" Kiba stepped back, fear taking root. "If those two lost... we're dead. We're all dead."

Shukaku plodded forward, crushing trees with every step, the ground shaking rhythmically. He looked down at the unconscious forms of Naruto and Sasuke with sadistic glee.

"SQUISH!" Shukaku announced happily, raising a colossal foot to stomp them into paste.

The shadow of the foot fell over the boys, eclipsing the world. Sakura screamed, rushing forward, her kunai drawn, though she knew she wouldn't make it in time.

"It's over," Shikamaru closed his eyes, unable to watch.

WHOOSH.

The air temperature in the clearing dropped thirty degrees in a single heartbeat. The humidity in the air crystalized instantly, turning into a fine, glittering mist.

A blur of teal and grey flashed between the falling foot and the helpless boys.

Ice Release: Diamond Dome.

A massive, thick hemisphere of reinforced ice erupted from the ground, encasing Naruto and Sasuke in a protective igloo. The ice wasn't clear; it was dense, opaque, and radiated a cold so intense it cracked the stones around it.

BOOM!

Shukaku's foot slammed into the ice. The ground shook violently. Dust and snow billowed out in a massive cloud.

But when the dust cleared... the ice hadn't cracked. It held the weight of the Tailed Beast without a scratch.

Shukaku blinked, confused. "Huh? Ice? In the middle of summer?"

Standing atop the ice dome, his coat fluttering in the wind generated by the impact, was Haku. He stood with perfect poise, his mask reflecting the sun, looking up at the fifty-meter monster with a calm, analytical gaze that betrayed no fear.

He adjusted his gloves, tightening the fabric over his fingers.

"You are loud," Haku said, his voice cutting through the silence, cold and sharp as a glacier. "My Sensei hates loud things."
