Chapter 15 - Beer and Work

After the villagers dispersed, Eugene played with Emilia while resting. The village felt unusually quiet and empty, with most people either sleeping or idle. He couldn't help but notice the lack of activity and began thinking of ways to keep everyone busy.

One idea that crossed his mind was brewing beer, but he quickly realized they lacked the modern tools needed for it. Still, he remembered that ancient civilizations had brewed beer without advanced technology, and perhaps they could do the same.

Origins of Ancient Beer

Beer is one of the oldest alcoholic beverages, with evidence of its production dating back to around 3000 BCE in Mesopotamia and Egypt.

Ancient beer was often thick, porridge-like, and consumed through straws to avoid sediment.

Myrul smiled as he thought about the possibilities. "If ancient civilizations could brew beer with basic tools, why can't we?" he mused.

He decided to gather the villagers and teach them the ancient art of brewing, not only to keep them busy but also to bring a sense of joy and celebration to the village.

Myrul gathered the villagers and explained his plan to brew beer using ancient methods. He divided them into teams, assigning specific roles to ensure the process ran smoothly.

---

1. Grain Preparation Team

- Role : Handle the malting and crushing of grains.

 - Tasks:

 - Soak grains (e.g., barley or wheat) in water to start the malting process.

- Dry the grains after they sprout.

 - Crush the malted grains using a mortar and pestle or a grinding stone.

 - Number of People : 2–3.

---

2. Mashing Team

- Role: Convert the grains into fermentable sugars.

- Tasks :

 - Mix the crushed grains with hot water in a large pot or vessel.

 - Maintain the temperature for about an hour to allow enzymes to break down starches into sugars.

 - Number of People : 2–3.

---

3. Boiling and Flavoring Team

 - Role: Boil the wort and add flavorings.

 - Tasks :

 - Boil the sweet liquid (wort) in a large pot over a fire or stove.

 - Add herbs, spices, or fruits (e.g., juniper berries, honey, or dates) for flavor and preservation.

 - Number of People : 2–3.

---

4. Fermentation Team

 - Role : Ferment the wort into beer.

 - Tasks :

 - Cool the boiled wort and transfer it to a fermentation vessel (e.g., a clay jar or food-safe bucket).

 - Add wild yeast or a small amount of fermented liquid from a previous batch to start fermentation.

- Seal the vessel with an airlock or cloth to allow gases to escape while keeping contaminants out.

- Number of People : 2–3.

---

 5. Storage and Serving Team

 - Role: Store and serve the finished beer.

- Tasks:

 - After fermentation (1–2 weeks), transfer the beer to storage vessels (e.g., clay jars or bottles).

 - Serve the beer using straws or cups, avoiding the sediment at the bottom.

 - Number of People : 2–3.

---

6. Fire and Safety Team

 - Role : Manage the fire and ensure safety.

 - Tasks:

 - Build and maintain a fire for boiling the wort.

 - Ensure safety precautions are followed, especially when handling hot liquids and open flames.

 - Number of People: 2–3.

The villagers listened intently to Myrul's instructions and immediately sprang into action. Some of them were unfamiliar with the process, so Myrul took the time to teach each group step by step. The boost in morale from the flag-raising ceremony had energized everyone, and they were willing to do whatever it took to make the brewing project a success.

Team 1: Finding Grains and yeast

For the first team, tasked with finding grains and yeast , He explained the process:

---

1. Look for Wild Grains and Wild Yeast

 - He instructed them to look for:

 - Wild Grains : Often found in wetland areas near jungles.

 - How to Use :

 - Harvest the grains by cutting the stalks and collecting the seed heads.

 - Dry the grains in the sun to prepare them for malting.

 - If possible, malt the grains by soaking them in water to germinate, then drying them to stop the process.

 - Find Natural Yeast

Wild yeast is essential for fermentation. In a jungle, you can capture wild yeast from:

 - The air (leave your mixture uncovered for a day or two).

 - The skins of fruits (e.g., bananas & pineapple

The team 1 nodded, eager to begin their search. Armed with baskets and tools, they set off into the jungle, determined to find the necessary grains and yeast .

Myrul gathered the villagers and addressed them with a smile. "That's all for today. For the other teams, prepare the materials and rest after they've collected everything. I'll teach you the next steps later."

He looked around at the villagers, who were already buzzing with excitement. "Ahh, at least after this, they'll have work to do. For today, let's make them happy first. After that, we'll build the Great Rebellion," he thought to himself.

As the villagers dispersed, the mysterious book appeared once again, floating in the air. Words began to form on its pages:

---

Reward for Sharing Knowledge:

- Strength : 25 → 30

- Intelligence : 85 → 90

- Speed : 25 → 30

- Artifacts : None

- Upgrade : *Cincin* (Can receive unlimited damage for 2 times per day )

- Reward : Skill - Can change anything to steel

---

Myrul's eyes widened as he read the rewards. "This is incredible! Not only do I get stronger, but I can also turn anything into steel? This will be a game-changer for the village," he feeling a surge of excitement.

The *Cincin* upgrade meant he could now withstand unlimited damage twice a day, making him even more formidable in battle. And the new skill—transforming objects into steel—would be invaluable for building tools, weapons, and defenses.

Today was a happy day for him . He walked over to Emilia and Eugene, a wide smile on his face. He scooped Emilia up into his arms and spun her around, making her laugh with joy as she felt like she was flying.

"Eugene, go rest now. I'll play with her," He said, his voice warm and cheerful.

Eugene smiled and leaned in, giving he a quick kiss on the cheek.

"That's cheating while I'm holding Emilia!" He joked, pretending to be shocked.

Eugene just smiled and walked away, heading to the hut to rest.
