"Ayla, come here." It was Claire, time for her second interrogation for the day.
"Hey Claire."
"Tell us what happened." Another senior asked.
She told them the semi-truth, just as she had done with her friends.
"Gabby......…." Claire muttered.
"She is so annoying." Another senior replied.
Very funny coming from them, calling someone annoying when they too were the same. Ayla wondered if she should ask to be excused.
"You can go." Claire dismissed her as if she were nothing. Maybe next time she should tell them the full truth.
Yet that thought made her shudder as she knew how that would play out, and it definitely would not be in her favour.
"Okay."
Ayla went back to her chair, and as she was about to begin her work,
"Why did they call you?" Carrie asked.
She told her that they, too, wanted to know what happened in Xavier's office.
Ayla finally went home,
"Earth to Ayla."
She turned to Sammy, "Right, where were we?"
"Spill it."
"Spill what?"
"Ayla layyyyy...….."
"Don't you dare give me a fake second name."
Sammy laughed, "I love doing that, one of the small joys in my life."
She rolled her eyes, "Whatever."
"Now, back to you, now tell me everything that happened, and I want full details and good stuff."
"How do you know that there is any juicy info?"
"Ayla, I know you all too well, now stop stalling and tell me everything."
She told Sammy everything,
"Oh my gosh, that is beyond hot. Go for it, Ayla, he wants you."
"I don't know."
"Why?"
"When I left, he was still talking to Gabby."
"And?"
"What do they have to talk about for so long?"
"Oh, I get what you mean."
"Yeah, so I'm sure they want to rekindle."
"Don't think like that, Ayla, what if he is setting things straight with her, creating boundaries?"
"I can't help it, especially after Derrick."
"He is not Derrick."
She swallowed, "I thought I knew Derrick Sammy, but turns out he was completely someone else. If someone like Derrick can do it to me, what more Xavier?"
"Think about it, Ayla."
"Yes?"
"What does he have to gain by going after you?"
"What?"
"He is handsome and wealthy, not a bum like Derrick."
"You have a point."
"In this scenario, you might be the scammer."
Ayla laughed, "How do I scam someone whom I don't intend to scam?"
"I don't know, but it sure feels that way."
"Well, he has nothing to worry about as I don't intend on taking this any further."
"I wish I could shake you, Ayla, you are denying yourself a great guy, all because of that bastard, don't miss this chance and regret it."
Sammy was partly right, and regret was one of her biggest fears. She sighed,
"I do get what you mean, and I will really think about it, Sammy."
"That's the problem."
"What is?"
"Don't think, Ayla, for the first time in your life, don't think and just have fun. Don't look for commitment if you are afraid; go on a wild ride that has no strings attached."
"I don't think that I have that in me."
"We all have it in us."
"I'm not a free and wild spirit like you."
"But you are with a bit of liquid courage."
"I can't be drunk all the time."
"You are a lightweight, Ayla, so yes, you can."
"Tempting."
"Go for it."
"Fine, I will think about it and see what will happen when I get back to work. Enough about me, your turn."
"Nothing much."
"What do you mean?"
"Boring as always, nothing compared to what you experience."
"No new guy?"
"No, not one I want anyway. I should take the hot CEO that you don't want."
"Be my guest."
"Grow a backbone, Ayla, Xavier is yours, and you will be together! Like it or not."
"The more you force me, Sammy, the more I won't do it."
"What will it take for you to have him?""Nothing."
"There has to be some deal breaker, so you can get your mans."
They laughed and spent the rest of the evening chatting, and when done, they decided to call it a night.
Ayla went to bed, and the last thing on her mind was Xavier holding and kissing her.
