Chapter 72 - The Warning

On the other hand, sensing Kiera's distress, Jace stepped forward, wrapping an arm around her for support. His eyes were filled with care and concern.

Not wanting to lose a second in finding out the truth, he snapped his head up, his eyes glaring at the old lady.

"What did you say to her?" he demanded, concern evident in his voice.

The grandmother merely smiled.

"The truth, young man," she stated firmly.

But before Jace could press for more answers, a loud crash from outside interrupted them.

"What could that be?" Kiera asked, her attention settling on Jace's face.

She could see the wrinkles on his forehead and knew he didn't understand it either. But one worry both of them had was the fact that their presence in the neighbourhood shouldn't be the one causing problems for the old lady.

They raced to the door, flinging it open, only to find Nicholas there, his usually composed face contorted in a mix of anger and desperation.
