Hajime paused for a moment, trying to remember, while the maid with the hammer walked by in the narrow corridor, smiling as she passed on her way to the girl who shared his room.
"No, she just disappeared without saying anything," Hajime said at last.
"Alright then," Kiku replied as she stood. "Go back to your room and get some rest. I'll come by in an hour," she added, turning toward the door.
"Hmm..." Hajime muttered, making Kiku glance back at him.
"What's wrong?" she asked.
"Nothing... I mean, it's nothing!" Hajime replied nervously.
"Alright then," Kiku said, opening the door. Hajime stood up, his eyes lingering on her back as she stepped out of the room.
Just outside, Kiku turned to continue on her way, only to bump into the maid with the hammer, who stood chatting with the girl beside her. The maid's smile hadn't faded, the heavy hammer resting easily against her shoulder, as though it weighed nothing.
