"How long is it taking for him to bring her down…" Elize muttered under her breath as she ascended the last few steps.
She reached the door and lifted her hand to knock, but after a moment's hesitation, she simply turned the knob and let the door open a few inches.
"Kael-"
Her voice halted when she saw the scene inside.
The morning light slipped through the curtains in soft, warm strands… and on the bed, she saw the two of them.
Brandon was lying on top of Charlotte with his cheek resting against her shoulder, while Charlotte's hand was curled gently behind his back.
Their faces were peaceful, softened by the stillness of morning.
Elize stood frozen for a few long seconds, and then she giggled.
"…Oh, my sweet boy…" she whispered with a tiny, affectionate shake of her head.
She took a silent step backward and carefully, she pulled the door back to its frame.
Before closing it completely, she glanced at them one more time and then she closed the door with a soft *click*.
