"It's been about 2 years since I've been on the planet.
Feels like 9.
My mother is, but a shadow of herself. Or… what i think herself is. She is always so distant with me. I can see it in her eyes. It's the same look I get from animals I hunt, or the other kids when we do no power combat and I almost kill them.
Fear.
She is… afraid. Of me. I always knew I was different from the others, even mom. They all have weird features, and I look…Normal - Human. I don't know what I am. I just know I'm different. Weird they call me.
Mikado used to praise me for being normal, he'd said it was a good thing. Now even he too calls me a failed experiment. Mom…
Mom's different too, I think she's dying. I can smell it on her. I don't know how I can, I just know I can.
She spirals more often too, nowadays she's too afraid to touch me. I often hear her talking to them. Her hallucinations. I don't know what to do. It's… scary, I think. I don't really feel much. Anymore. Mikado says that's a good thing. The others say it's normal.
Do you think it's normal?" I asked the new boy.
" I don't know, i can't really, feel anything much, i was diagnosed with ASPD, they said it's not severe, but i don't know"
"You already had a disorder before they brought you here?"
" Well, I don't know, what's a disorder? I grew up in a poor orphanage and, they only let the older kids go to school, so sorry if I sound stupid"
" What's your name?"
"Kage"
"Kage. I'm suki. How old are you?"
"I don't remember. I hit my head before those guys brought me here, it was a truck, i think"
"Cool" It was the first thing i thought.
"Why are you here all by yourself?" No one ever asked. Even I never did. I always assumed it was because I grew up here. Now, maybe it's because I'm different.
"Because I'm broken."
"Really?"
"I think so."
" I'm broken too. We are… The same"
I tilted my head out of pure curiosity. I think I just made what normal people call- a friend. I got to know from a guard that he was a year older than me. No one knew his parents so he had no last name. He was brought to his orphanage as a baby. Diagnosed by a quack as a sociopath because he didn't show as much emotion as he other kids. He was… different. Like me.
Everyday we go to train. I learnt he was given a similar combination of flowers to mine. But they affected him differently. While mine was given to me early -Since the beginning of my existence. His was given a bit late, but when his blood was tested he had stage 1 cancer. They didn't seem to care though. They started him off with Dahlia black, and some of my blood, after a week he had no trace of cancer in his body.
He developed heterochromia after that though. His golden brown eyes became stained with red, like blood. How pretty those blood stain gold eyes would look in a painting.
In all my training in physical combat I have been efficient. But as for unnatural ability, I only have a little more than average self healing. Which earned me the nickname ' Failed experiment' over the years. A Lot of the older kids are either dead or transferred. I can no longer speak to them. So it was nice to have kage.
My… Friend.
However, That was a year and a half ago.
Today, things changed, they gave us 3x the dose of Dahlia black and a couple other things. They set us up to fight a couple of the older kids, ones we had no knowledge of, They were set on killing us, and the others were on their side. The fight was a blur of daggers, punches and kicks, but the second it was made known to us that it was an anything goes fight I was sure I would lose, badly. And it wasn't just the Dahlia induced pain spreading like a virus all over my body that told me. But the fact that Kage was getting absolutely beat by them.
While I was practically the weakest asylum kid in terms of superhuman abilities, Kage was the one of the strongest if not the strongest. People threw shade at him for it, but he said he didn't care. The fact that he was getting beat made it seem impossible for me to have a chance at winning.
But then I heard it. Loud like firecrackers, echoing in the training ground.
Kage's bone had snapped. Followed by his uncanny scream. Then a scream of my own as I felt Dahlia black quite literally ignite in my bones. I'd been trying to suppress my blood lust all this time, now all I could see was red.
I heard him voice something like "No, Don't " before I ran and lunged at them with the mini dagger that was strapped to my ankle, taking a jab at one of them's eyes. He'd blocked it. But was clearly stunned by my sudden speed that it took him a while to register that it was the same me who was kneeling on the floor with major cuts and bruises a while ago. That gave me enough time to land a back kick to his head, knocking him down giving me the opportunity to pull out my hand gun.
With two quick bullets to his head and one to his chest he was out in an instant. Splashing a bit of blood to my face, something I genuinely savored. The next guy didn't let me taste the blood off my fingers before he came to avenge his fallen comrade, but I saw his flimsy attack early. He tried to jab my neck from behind, i caught the hand instead, broke it before punching him in the face, and breaking his nose a couple times before the next couple bastards jumped me from behind, one jumping amiss after i dodged and the other trying desperately to choke me.
Only he forgot about my gun.
"Goodnight sucker" And I put a bullet through his skull.
Another guy I hadn't seen coming showed up only to have 4 bullets to his chest. I looked back to find Kage had healed and was ok again with only non lethal cuts.
At the end of the fight,i was covered in blood, i took a couple licks at the blood before me and kage began a random burst of laughter which we got called crazy for. Then something caught my eye.
"Suki, your eyes, they're…"
Before he could tell me what happened I blurted out my own discovery.
"The gold part of your eyes glowed just now, haha that's weird"
"Says the girl with purple eyes" he said, with minimum humor on his blood splattered face.
" No silly my eyes are red, I've explained this be-" i cut my self off when I saw my mother standing at the edge of the arena. Staring at me, as I was covered in blood.
"Your eyes… they're-"
I looked into my reflection on a window. The eyes that stared back were not mine. They looked… hungry, like a wild animal, hungry but the weirdest part, was that they were… they were purple. I whispered to myself in my confusion and the purple cleared. And my eyes were blood colored once again.
Then those slow, satisfied clapping began from the shadow to reveal a familiar foe.
