Chapter 2 - 2. Assasinating the Grim Reaper

10-15 minutes ago (The same night)

Walking away from Jace's mansion, Ronan's mind was torn between a severe dilemma. On one hand, he knew that the peace and prosperity the warren clan is now enjoying and will continue to enjoy are all thanks to Jace, but on the other hand, he knew that Jace would be the reason why this peace won't last long. Ronan wasn't a pacifist, but he didn't want to be a stepping stool for his brother. He had taken the position of being the Lord of the Warren clan only because his father wanted it that way. This was the path his father had set up for him, and Ronan just walked it. Having Jace behind him for most of the journey made the path even easier. But the last thing Ronan's own father said while on his deathbed was to get rid of Jace, the first thing when the war is over.

'Were you so much afraid of him father? Of someone whom you brought from the branch family yourself and treated him like a son? Well, today your last wish will also come true, it seems.' Ronan thought as he entered his own mansion. His mansion was a little bigger than Jace's and had way more guards. As Ronan reached the first floor of his mansion, a woman wearing a green Irish Lass blue and a white and red fox mask appeared.

"The spirit orbs are ready and connected with the other 5 clans as you requested." the woman said in a cold voice.

Ronan nodded and looked at the woman. Through the mask, the only thing he could see were the eyes. The eyes were almost red... not with anger but with sadness.

"Are you really not going to meet him and say your final goodbyes, Mary? You are the only sister he has." Ronan asked.

Mary clenched her fists. "Unlike you, I can't look him in the eye and lie to him about how the people he fought for are going to sink their claws in his back." Mary's body trembled with anger as she said this, and tears started falling on the ground from under the mask.

"The decision has already been made, and the elders of the clan have provided their unanimous vote for this. I now have to talk with all the other clan leaders. You can wait outside." Ronan said in a firm tone and walked inside the room.

"Jace was right to do what he did to the elder council...I shouldn't have stopped him. I am leaving the clan...you and those old bones wanted to clan to yourselves, so now you have it. And don't act like you are being forced to do this. After becoming the clan head, you wanted to get rid of him. The only reason you didn't is because, hmph..you are too weak. Now seeing Jace injured, you bared your fangs. I just can't believe you are still trying to wear that pathetic mask of yours, where you show everyone how helpless you are." Mary said with hatred filled in her voice and walked out of the room. Ronan wanted to stop her, but he knew that he couldn't fall weak... at least not tonight...one small mistake and he might even lose his life.

Ronan took in a deep breath and walked towards the work table in his room, and sat in his chair with his back to the window. The table had 5 glass metal cubes with a 20x20 cm mirror attached on top of it. On each mirror, Ronan could see someone. As he stood in front of it, all 5 people looked at Ronan. "Are you ready, Lord Ronan? You are about to become the real lord of the Warren clan" One of the men in the mirror asked. He was an oversized white man with brown hair lying on the bed, sipping red wine. This was Thomas Bernard. The head of the Bear clan.

"Are you trying to rub salt on the wound he is about to self-inflict?" a black woman from another mirror asked. She had green scaly skin on half of her face and neck, and her eyes resembled those of a snake. She was Medusa Inyoka. The head of the Snake clan.

"Oh, you are taking his side now, Medusa...that's heartbreaking for me." the fat man said to which Ronan just cleared his throat and said "I can't be provoked by a bear and not manipulated by a poisonous tongue either."

"That is good...As I expect from a fellow clan Leader of the Great 6 Clans." A Radiant light shone from the third mirror as a face appeared. The man had golden hair up to his shoulders, which were broad and muscular. He wore a white shirt and had a sun-shaped golden pendant on his neck. This man was William Lionheart...the head of the Lion clan.

"Fear not, Lord Ronan, once that man is out taken care of, us the Lionheart clan and all the other great clans will accept the Warren clan, and the discussed land and resources will be allotted to your clan. Even support for your people in other continents will also be provided. All of this for one sacrifice...don't look down. He should have offered himself up on his own if he truly considered you the clan leader. If he is smart enough to make and execute such strategies, then he should be able to understand the pros and cons of giving up his life."

As Ronan heard all of this, he couldn't help but grind his teeth because even he knew that this was happening because all the other clans feared Jace and knew that one day Jace's fangs might drain the life out of all of them and even their clans if need be.

"It is funny seeing you try to convince him till the last moment, Lord of Lionheart." A brown Indian man said with a smile on his face as if taunting him. This man was Shaurya Wagh...the head of the Tiger Clan from India.

"Enough with all of this...the decision was made by me and the elders of my clan...just tell me if everything is ready or not." Ronan said with a tired expression on his face.

The Lionheart Clan leader William was happy to see Ronan butt in between just when the head of the Tiger clan taunted him.

"We have the skies covered Lord Ronan, as requested. Once our sight has been set, no one can escape them." A sharp and boastful voice was heard from the last mirror. It was a Frenchman wearing aristocratic clothes. He had sharp eyes and even sharper eyebrows and an air of nobility around him by the way he looked at the others. This man was Lucas Aquila, the head of the Eagle Clan.

"I expect nothing less from you" Lord Lucas William Lionheart said nodding, garnering a nod from the other clan leaders as well, who just looked aside for a moment. Ronan knew that this meant they were signaling their own people, who were already hiding in caves on the outskirts of the warren clan headquarters, to start the mission.

"Now, Lord Ronan just open the window behind you and let us see with our own eyes...the fall of the Grim Reaper of the Warren Clan." the head of the bear clan said as he came close to the mirror and his eyes widened. Although Ronan didn't like he had heard and Thomas Bernard looked a lot like a creep, Ronan knew every clan lead wanted to see this with their own eyes.

Ronan opened the windows and looked at the mountain tops near Jace's mansion. He could see the multiple figures stand atop of the mountain. The number of people on the mountain top continued increasing and within seconds it reached near 80 people. Just by looking at them, Ronan could see that every person was atleast a squad vice captain and there were a few elders in the mix as well.

"With so many experienced Reapers working together, I don't think the injured wolf has any place to go but to Hell. He must have a silence rune around his mansion so he won't even hear them coming until they enter his own home." Shaurya Wagh said with a smirk on his face. Just then a few figures were seen in the air from behind the mountain and circle Jace's mansion and one of them let out a high pitched whistle which instantly caused all the 80 Reapers standing at the mountain top to charge straight at Jace's mansion.

All the clan leaders including Ronan had their eyes set on Jace's mansion as the Reapers were just about to infiltrate it but just then something happened and all the doors and windows of his mansion suddenly opened with a loud bang and bright light spread from it illuminating all the nearby buildings.

"WHAT THE HELL IS HAPPENING?" Thomas Bernard said in loud voice as he threw away the wine glass in his hand and picked up the mirror device that was laying on his bed.

All the other clan leaders including Ronan had an expression of confusion and annoyance on their face. 'What the hell is happening at such a last minute?' Ronan thought as he saw this. Just when he was so close to getting what he wanted, something unseen like this had interfered.

"Is that some spell meant to blind our people? Is he trying to escape ?" The leader of the Tiger clan Shaurya Wagh asked as he squinted his eyes. For a second, all the clan leaders thought that what Shaurya said did make sense but the next second, multiple red ribbons with etchings on them burst out of the mansion's doors and windows.

The reapers who were about to storm Jace's mansion stopped in their tracks as they didn't know what they were seeing. The clan leaders also hadn't given any orders. All of this had caused the entire clan to be on alert and many of the Warren Clanmates stepped out of their house to see what this light was.

"Lord Lucas, what do we do? We were supposed to land on the roof." One of the Reapers flying over Jace's mansion asked.

"There is no going back on this. The plan is still in place...go in and bring us the Grim Reaper's head." Lucas Aquila said as his hands transformed into the talons and he displayed a grabbing motion.

"That doesn't seem like a good idea...we don't know what this is we are seeing and the Reapers of the Warren clan won't let our Reapers escape now if we engage." Shaurya Wagh but the other clan leaders weren't having it...especially Medusa who now seemed extremely worried. "There is no way to hide our involvement in this and if we don't get rid of Jace today then you all know that he will hunt us down one by one...it is easy for Lord Shaurya to say who lives an Ocean apart but the first clans to be annhilated will be mine and Lord Lucas's. The Reapers we have sent already knew who they were going against and that the chances of their survival were low."

The one who was the most worried was obviously Ronan now had to make sure that his own people don't kill all the Reapers that were brought to kill Jace. As everyone had their own worries, the ribbons had already covered most of the mansion but instead of simply wrapping around it like it did on Jace, it started crushing the mansion.

The Reapers of the Eagle clan were the first ones to come in contact with the ribbons since they had just swooped down at high speed but just when the ribbon touched a Reaper, it flung it away hard as if swatting a fly. The same thing happened to a few others as well. By this time the Reapers from the other clans had come in contact with the ribbon on the ground as well but even they couldn't do anything. Reapers from the Bear clan increased their size and used all their strength but couldn't come an inch close because of the constant attacks from the ribbons.

Everyone was getting more and more desperate every passing second and within 10 seconds, the entire mansion had disappeared and turned into debris which were floating in the air. Just as everyone was trying to find Jace within all this and even felt that he had escaped, the light dimmed a little revealing Jace fully wrapped in ribbon. The only body part visible of his was his eyes which were now red and black.

Everyone nearby just stood looking at him...not knowing what's going to happen struck fear into the hearts of many. The ribbons that were keeping the Reapers from the other clans at bay retracted and now the only thing everyone including the Clan Heads could see was Jace wrapped in tape like a mummy hovering in mid air and his eyes staring at Ronan through the window.

The very next second Jace disappeared... "Huh? Where did he go?" Lord Lucas asked standing now on his feet.

"Lord Ronan...where is Jace? Have you betrayed us?" Thomas asked angrily visibly upset by what he had just seen.

Ronan who himself was shocked to see everything that had happened was furious as he heard this...but this wasn't the right time to get in an argument with the dumb bear...where was Jace? what did he do? how did he know? Ronan's mind raced with questions. He looked around his clan and saw---the Reapers from the other clans had backed out just in time before the Warren clan Reapers could do anything thanks to a few Warren clan elders who seemed to have started a narrative of their own now.

'Did I just mess up my best chance to take out the only obstacle I had in the clan.' Ronan thought as he stared at the empty space where Jace's Mansion once stood.
