Chapter 14 - New Dorm Member

The second semester had just begun at Blackridge Academy, and Andy was already regretting the early morning drills. Esthen, his best friend and roommate, had managed to sleep through half of them, as usual.

But something was different this semester.

Their dorm room, usually reserved for two, had a third bed now. A quiet knock at the door revealed their new roommate: Kyle.

Tall, pale, and silent, Kyle stepped in with a single duffel bag and no expression. His eyes were a strange shade of silver, and he wore gloves even indoors. He didn't speak much—just nodded and unpacked a single book with no title and a pendant shaped like a crescent moon.

Esthen leaned over to Andy. "He's either a vampire or a transfer student from the Shadow Division."

Andy chuckled, but deep down, he felt it too—something about Kyle wasn't normal.

🌒 Strange Occurrences

That night, the lights flickered. Andy's alarm reset to midnight. Esthen's flame crystal dimmed for the first time ever.

Kyle sat by the window, staring at the moon.

The next morning, rumors spread across campus: someone had broken into the Vault of Echoes, a sealed archive of forbidden relics. No alarms had gone off. No cameras had caught anything.

Andy noticed Kyle's pendant glowing faintly.

🧩 The Puzzle Deepens

Over the next few days, Kyle remained distant. He never ate in the cafeteria. He never joined training. But he always seemed to know things—like when the instructors would surprise them with pop trials, or when the weather would shift minutes before it happened.

One night, Andy followed Kyle into the library. Kyle disappeared behind a hidden panel in the wall. Andy and Esthen snuck in after him and found a secret chamber filled with ancient scrolls and glowing runes.

Kyle turned, eyes now glowing faintly. "You shouldn't be here."

Esthen raised his flame dagger. "Then explain why you are."

Kyle sighed. "I'm not here to hurt anyone. I'm here to stop something."

He revealed the truth: he was part of a forgotten faction called the Moonbound, guardians of a relic that had recently gone missing. The Vault of Echoes had been breached by someone else—and Kyle was tracking them.

🕳️ The Real Threat

Suddenly, the chamber trembled. A shadow burst from the scrolls—a creature made of ink and whispers. Kyle stepped forward, removing his gloves. His hands glowed with lunar energy, and he sealed the creature with a chant in a language Andy didn't recognize.

Esthen stared. "Okay, vampire's off the table. Moon sorcerer?"

Kyle smirked. "Something like that."

🏛️ Trust Earned

Back in the dorm, Kyle finally spoke freely. "I didn't come here to make friends. But I didn't expect to find allies."

Andy nodded. "You've got us now. Whatever's coming, we face it together."

And as the moon rose higher, casting eerie shadows across the academy, the trio sat in silence—knowing the real mystery was just beginning.

Chapter 2: Secrets Beneath the Moon

The moon hung low over Blackridge Academy, casting long shadows across the dormitory halls. Andy couldn't sleep. Kyle's revelation about the Moonbound and the breach in the Vault of Echoes had stirred something in him—a sense that their school was hiding more than just relics.

Esthen, ever restless, was already up, flipping through Kyle's strange book. "No title. No author. Just symbols that rearrange themselves when you blink."

Kyle entered silently, his silver eyes glowing faintly. "It's a living archive. It reacts to memory."

Andy leaned forward. "Then show us what it's hiding."

Kyle hesitated, then placed the crescent pendant on the book's cover. The pages flared with light, revealing a map—one that led beneath the academy, to a chamber called The Hollow Sanctum.

🕳️ Descent into the Sanctum

The trio snuck out under the cover of night, bypassing patrols and magical wards. Kyle led them through forgotten tunnels, past murals depicting battles between the Moonbound and an ancient enemy known only as The Shiver—a force that fed on fear and silence.

At the Sanctum's entrance, the air grew cold. The walls pulsed with whispers. Esthen lit a flame, but it flickered unnaturally.

Inside, they found a sealed door marked with the same crescent symbol. Kyle placed his hand on it. "This is where the Moonbound buried their greatest mistake."

The door opened.

🧊 The Shiver Awakens

Within the Sanctum was a crystal prison—and inside it, a figure made of shadow and frost. It stirred as they entered.

Kyle's voice trembled. "It's waking. Someone's been feeding it energy."

Suddenly, the door slammed shut. A cloaked figure emerged from the shadows—a student, one of the top-ranked strategists, known for his silence and precision. His name was Riven.

"I opened the Vault," Riven said. "The academy needs cleansing. The Shiver will reset everything."

Andy stepped forward. "You're insane."

Riven smiled. "No. I'm enlightened."

He shattered the crystal.

⚔️ Battle in the Dark

The Shiver erupted, filling the chamber with icy dread. Esthen launched fire bolts, but they fizzled. Andy summoned wind blades, but they slowed mid-air. Kyle stepped forward, chanting in the Moonbound tongue, forming a barrier of lunar light.

"Hold it off," Kyle shouted. "I'll reseal it."

Andy and Esthen fought with everything they had—dodging tendrils of frost, countering illusions of despair. Kyle's pendant glowed brighter than ever, and with a final surge, he sealed the Shiver back into the crystal.

Riven vanished in the chaos.

🏛️ Aftermath

Back in the dorm, the trio sat in silence. Kyle looked exhausted. "The Shiver isn't gone. Just sleeping. And Riven… he's not working alone."

Andy nodded. "Then we find him. And we stop whatever's coming."

Esthen grinned. "Looks like our dorm's officially the most dangerous place on campus."

Outside, the moon dimmed slightly—as if watching.

The Moonbound Pact

Days passed since the encounter in the Hollow Sanctum. Kyle had grown quieter, more withdrawn. Andy noticed him scribbling symbols in his notebook—symbols that shimmered faintly and vanished when touched. Esthen, ever curious, tried to decode them but ended up with a nosebleed and a headache.

Something was changing.

🕯️ The Whispering Walls

One night, the dorm walls began to whisper. Not voices, but memories—fragments of past students, long gone. Andy heard his own voice from years ago, crying out during his first trial. Esthen heard laughter, then silence.

Kyle stood in the center of the room, eyes closed. "The Shiver is leaking. The seal is weakening."

Andy stepped forward. "Then we need to reinforce it."

Kyle opened his notebook. "There's a ritual. But it requires a pact. A Moonbound pact."

Esthen raised an eyebrow. "What's the catch?"

Kyle looked at them both. "You'll be bound to me. If I fall, you fall."

Without hesitation, Andy nodded. "We're already bound. Just not by magic."

Esthen smirked. "Let's do it. Worst case, we become moon zombies."

🌘 The Ritual

They performed the pact beneath the academy's oldest tower, where moonlight filtered through a cracked dome. Kyle chanted in the ancient tongue, Andy and Esthen repeating the words. Their pendants glowed, and a mark appeared on their wrists—a crescent entwined with flame and wind.

Suddenly, the ground shook. A portal opened.

From it emerged Riven, cloaked in shadows, flanked by two corrupted Moonbound. "You should've stayed out of this," he hissed.

⚔️ The Final Stand

The battle was fierce. Riven wielded void magic, warping space and memory. Esthen fought with blazing fury, his flames now infused with lunar energy. Andy moved like the wind, striking with precision and speed. Kyle held the seal, chanting, bleeding, glowing.

Riven struck Kyle, breaking the chant. The seal cracked.

Andy dove forward, grabbing Kyle's pendant and continuing the chant. Esthen shielded them both, his flames forming a protective dome.

With a final surge, the seal reformed. The corrupted Moonbound vanished. Riven escaped, but wounded.

🌕 Aftermath

Back in the dorm, the whispers stopped. The walls were silent. The moon shone brighter.

Kyle looked at Andy and Esthen. "You're not just allies. You're Moonbound now."

Andy smiled. "Then let's find Riven. And finish this."

Esthen raised his flame dagger. "Third semester's gonna be wild."

And somewhere, deep beneath the academy, the Shiver stirred once more.

 Moonlight and Memory

Weeks passed since the Moonbound pact was sealed and the Shiver was contained. Blackridge Academy returned to its rhythm—classes, trials, and whispered rumors of what had happened beneath the tower. But Andy, Esthen, and Kyle knew the truth. They had faced something ancient, something forgotten, and survived.

Kyle had changed. He smiled more, spoke more, even joined Esthen in sparring matches—though he always fought with eerie precision. Andy noticed the crescent mark on their wrists had faded slightly, but the bond remained.

One evening, as the moon rose full and bright, Kyle stood at the edge of the academy's cliffside garden. Andy and Esthen joined him, silent.

"I've been summoned," Kyle said. "The Moonbound want me back."

Esthen frowned. "You're part of this dorm now."

Kyle nodded. "I know. But some paths must be walked alone."

Andy stepped forward. "Then promise you'll return."

Kyle smiled. "I will. When the moon calls again."

He vanished into the mist, leaving behind his pendant—now dim, but warm.

Back in the dorm, Andy placed it on the windowsill. Esthen lit a small flame beside it.

And as the moonlight bathed the room, the whispers returned—not of fear, but of memory. Of friendship. Of a story that had ended, but would never be forgotten.
