Chapter 404 - Jason’s Sincerity

Boom!

When the time on the clock passed 6:30, a shocking impact sounded from the rear of the Fireflies' base. Despite the orders being given to lower their weapons, Jason's group would not trust something like that, so they entered with a deafening sound.

Although it was impossible to see the moment of the explosion from here, one could feel the destructive power of the blast at this moment by the smoke rising and the thick smoke slowly pouring out of the broken wall.

This kind of movement naturally alarmed all the Fireflies, and there were screams of fear.

And in a short time, a group of elites moved in and soon began to see people lying on the ground with faces full of terror. For all those people who surrendered, their hands were simply restrained behind their backs so that no one could do anything foolish.

Not far from where the group had entered, the two Fireflies guarding the place naturally dropped their weapons and walked together to the edge of the fence. After a few seconds, they saw a fully armed group advancing forward.

Jason, who was in the office where the Fireflies' leader was located, looked out the window, but unfortunately he couldn't see absolutely anything.

"It looks like it has started!"

Although a large part of the Fireflies' base was covered by thick smoke, the piercing sound of the ground breaking and the sound of gunfire made Merlene turn pale with fear. A sinister premonition surged from her heart and she shouted in panic.

Bang Bang Bang!

"What does this mean, Jason?"

But continuous explosions kept being heard in different parts of the base. Only the sounds of defending the place could be heard, followed by bursts of violent fighting and gunfire, as well as several shots. There were screams and the sound of heavy objects falling to the ground.

This sense of helplessness in the darkness made Merlene feel a surge of fear, so she walked toward Jason, looked him in the eyes, and demanded answers.

Jason, who had Merlene's weapon due to her peaceful surrender, pointed the gun at her, and Joel along with Tommy did the same to the others.

"It seems you're mistaken…" Jason said in a cold tone. "If right now my people are shooting or you're hearing those fucking gunshots, it's because your people fired. Do you think it's not convincing that we would shoot back as well?"

Joel felt no attachment to all these people; after all, he didn't know them. So he stood on Jason's side, who had helped him recover Ellie and place her somewhere safe. Tommy, on the other hand, really didn't know much about what was going on, but since there were no other options to take, he decided to stand by his brother.

The sound of helicopters could be heard over the Fireflies' base, waiting for the right moment to act if required.

"I really want to change all of this, but sometimes many people don't understand what I'm truly looking for… Since the beginning of the end of the world, I've been searching for a cure, but the situation has always been difficult and insurmountable…"

Jason looked at everyone in the room, lowered his weapon, and his tone softened a little. "You can all help me. I don't want you to be my enemies, but if you show me otherwise, I don't want you by my side."

Joel, to the side, said, "Merlene, your people helped me and I understand a bit about your situation, but I think Jason's vision for the future is much better than yours…"

"What happened to Ellie?" Tommy asked while looking at his brother.

"She's fine. Jason's people are taking care of her, along with some trustworthy people."

Jason walked toward the door, looked at everyone in the room, and said, "You can come and see what's happening outside. I'm also curious."

As they moved forward, Joel and Tommy were catching up behind the group while closely watching the movements of Merlene and the rest of the Fireflies, at the same time looking at Jason, who was at the front of the group with a trustworthy aura.

No one really understood Jason's behavior. What did he really expect to gain by acting in such a non-passive way? Everyone knew his stances, and normally the strong eliminate the weak; that had always been the way.

Boom!

But right ahead, an explosion was heard. Jason took cover while holding his weapon and waited. However, in the compartment filled with thick smoke, they couldn't see the situation clearly.

"Kill all the invaders, don't let those fucking idiots live!"

When everyone heard those words, they turned their heads toward Merlene, and she couldn't believe that her words had been violated. Jason was right; the Fireflies were the ones showing resistance.

By the time Jason turned around, several corpses fell to the ground. The one who had been shouting loudly also fell to the floor, and a flash grenade entered through the hallway, leaving all the Fireflies stunned.

"Protect this hallway, I'll take care of going after your leader!"

Seeing this situation, Jason and the rest immediately understood what was happening. Some of the Fireflies must have instilled fear into the minds of many people, and this pushed them not to be afraid to confront Jason's people.

Looking at the Fireflies entering through the hallway, Jason paid them no attention at all. He raised his pistol and continuously fired at the first two Fireflies who arrived, expending all his bullets.

The two Fireflies immediately had several bullet holes in their bodies and fell to the ground, bleeding profusely.

Seeing this, the remaining two Fireflies pulled out their long-range flash grenades and threw them toward Jason.

But while the flash grenade was still flying through the air, Jason grabbed a piece of cloth that was placed on the armrest beside him and threw it in front of himself, then turned to the side and kicked his extended foot in the direction of the cloth.

He hooked the cloth with his foot, and then his foot struck the flash grenade, sending it forward.

At the moment of the violent collision, the flash grenade exploded, but the cloth blocked most of the damage. It flew low under the kick and hit the face of the nearest Firefly.

"Ah!"

The Fireflies did not expect this to happen. Originally, he had wanted to wait for the opponent's attack before preparing his knife.

But at that moment, he was caught off guard and was struck across the entire head and face. Dust entered his eyes, mouth, and nose; the intense pain and indescribable suffocation made the injured man clutch his face and let out a hoarse roar.

When the two remaining enemies were hit, Jason had already moved forward and kicked the Firefly whose face had been smashed by the powder, finishing him off.

Then he grabbed the other person's hair with his hands and shoved forward with force. His head slammed heavily into the wall, his body twisted, and went limp.

"Don't kill them!" But at that moment, a shout was heard behind him.
