Chapter 435 - Sleeping Under the Song

Everyone slept deeply that night. Except for a few shifts in the middle of the night, the rest did not wake up until after six in the morning.

This is because a soldier can survive in hostile and dangerous environments through a combination of training, mental and physical preparation, proper equipment, and survival strategies.

In terms of training, soldiers are trained in basic military skills such as weapon handling, combat techniques, survival tactics, navigation, and communications. They may also receive specialized training in areas such as combat medicine, explosives, and mine disposal, among others.

"No way!"

Just as people were still groggy, an exclamation came from the deck, and everyone's sleepy minds woke up instantly. They rushed out of the cabin, but the scene before them completely shocked them.

On the shore, more than ten meters from the yacht, walkers densely packed together surrounded the street. Because the fence on the shore blocked them, these walkers kept gathering more and more, but since their position was lower than the riverbank, it was impossible to see how far the horde of the undead extended.

If they could look down from a high place at this moment, they would definitely be completely stunned by this scene, because right now, the walkers on the riverbank stretched hundreds of meters outward.

Everyone felt their bodies go numb at the sight, and the music playing above their heads suddenly stopped, followed by Jason's shout.

"Attention, our task in the coming days is to lure all the walkers into the river. From now on, everyone will attack the fences along the riverbank with their weapons. You must understand that our target is not the walkers, but to make these undead fall into the river as soon as the fence is destroyed."

Although they were soldiers, whenever they faced situations like this, they were always able to deal with large numbers of walkers without any fear.

Now that the entire plan had been built and taken shape, what followed was actually easy.

The music sounded again from the speakers, continuing to attract the walkers toward this side, and Jason was not worried that the sound would fail to reach the other side of the city.

Because walkers have a herd effect, as long as they attracted the walkers in the city, it was equivalent to drawing the attention of all the walkers.

Even if no more sound was made, the formed horde would follow the walkers at the front in whatever direction they moved, and eventually Jason would clear the city.

Although there were still some walkers in dead corners of the city who would not come out, the area affected by a single large horde was enough to attract 99% of the undead in the city.

Everyone put their helmets back on and raised their weapons, aiming at the railings along both sides of the river. The sound of music mixed with gunfire made the nearby walkers even more agitated.

Jason took a sniper rifle and walked to the bow deck, with a piece of jerky and some bread in his mouth. This was his breakfast. This time, everyone was equipped with a large amount of dry food, allowing them to quickly make sandwiches.

Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!

The bullets struck precisely at the connection points of the railings with powerful kinetic energy, easily tearing apart the fragile metal structure, and the upper sections broke apart directly.

The force generated by the terrifying number of walkers pushing forward was equally terrifying. The walkers that had been gathering since midnight pushed forward with force.

When the people on the yacht joined in the shooting, the railings began to break at an extremely fast rate. Combined with the force exerted by the walkers, several sections of railing produced teeth-piercing metallic bending sounds.

The walkers burst through the gaps like a flood, and the visual effect was quite terrifying.

Seeing that the task was working, Jason signaled for the yacht to move along the river, continuing to break the railings so that the walkers would fall into the river in massive waves.

At this point, the situation no longer required Jason's commands—everyone knew what to do and continued doing it.

In a short time, the walkers reached the river and finally fell in chain after chain.

Jason estimated that it would take at least three days to clear all the walkers, but he was wrong. By the morning of the fourth day, there were still scattered walkers coming from the streets in all directions.

As the number of walkers decreased to a certain level, they began to move slowly toward the shore.

On the morning of the fourth day, Jason dismantled the wind turbine that had originally been installed on the boat and installed it on another small boat along with a battery and the previous speaker.

The boat was fixed directly in the middle of the river. The speaker continued playing music, and finally they were able to leave the yacht and hide directly in a nearby apartment building in the urban area on the other side of the river.

Four consecutive days of living on the yacht did not make everyone feel uncomfortable, but the loud sound of the speaker truly gave them headaches.

But everyone focused on pushing forward, and it took a bit more effort to clear the building, after which everyone finally let out a sigh of relief.

"For God's sake, I'm going deaf. At first I didn't feel it, but it's torture after so long."

"Holy God, I used to love Lady Gaga, but now I can't stand her songs—at least for a while."

Welles kept plugging his ears with his pinky fingers, with a piece of jerky in his mouth. The expression on his face looked very tired.

The rest of the people did not complain about anything. They just looked at him silently, and a deep sense of fatigue could be seen on their faces.

The corner of Jason's mouth curled up slightly as he walked to the window, looking at the walkers in the street below that were still moving toward the shore. Even now, he could still hear the music coming from the river.

"Listen, everyone has worked hard, so you can rest over the next few days. You can go to bed as soon as possible after dinner today."

After saying that, Jason looked around and added, "Since we're in a large building with rooms, you can choose to sleep alone or in pairs. There are enough rooms for all of us, so you can decide for yourselves."

Except for Welles, who stayed behind, everyone else left yawning and basically entered a room to rest. Only a few people chose to share a room.

"Judging by the situation, there shouldn't be any walkers by tomorrow morning. What should we do next?"

Although Welles was also very tired, he still insisted on staying. It is not easy to be a leader at any time. As a former sergeant, everyone on the team unconsciously followed his arrangements, even though he was not originally a leader. The officer who had been the best in the group was gradually accepted by management after his arrival at S.C.T.

Now his decisions were more important than before, and at the same time, the pressure was greater because he was responsible for hundreds of people.

Jason was reclining in an armchair while eating dried fruits along with some nuts. Welles remained there, looking at his legs and checking that his prosthetics had no issues to continue forward.

But at that moment—

The sound of a helicopter echoed in the distance, reverberating between the buildings, bringing the discussion in the room to an abrupt halt.

"I need a report!"
