Chapter 7 - More at wits end

[One hour later — Yahiko finds Misami sitting alone, her hands clutching her head as silent sobs shake her shoulders.]

Yahiko: "Misa... can we talk?"

Misami (wiping her tears, voice flat): "Great. Talk about what? Oh, how my only friend was actually working for my mother behind my back? Watching me like a damn babysitter?"

Yahiko: "It's not like that—"

Misami: "Then tell me how it really is! Tell me already!"

Yahiko (voice trembling): "I wasn't asked to watch over you. I did it on my own. You're like the sister I never had. I always wanted to be by your side, Misa. You're the most important person to me. I never wanted to lie... but your mom asked me not to say anything. She thought it would spare you the heartbreak."

Misami (eyes softening, voice low): "...So... your mom died. And your only sister..." (She looks at Yahiko.)

Yahiko: "Yeah. After I was born, my mom entrusted Miss Sarah Vermillion with raising me. It was part of the trade... before your father left to face Lucifer. My sister's fate is still unknown."

Misami: "I'm sorry… for being so harsh. This whole thing—it's just too much to take in all at once."

Yahiko: "I know."

Misami: "But Yami… he's got it even worse. His entire world—gone. All because of someone's hunger for power. And now he has to fight to protect this one... it's sick."

Yahiko: "He doesn't really have a choice anymore..."

Misami: "Yeah..."

[Meanwhile, deep within the ancient building, Yami sits alone. His eyes slowly close.]

Yami (thoughts): "Hey… where are you, figure?"

Figure (voice echoing): "The name is Dagger. And finally, you speak to me."

Yami: "Explain it. Why me?"

Dagger: "Simple. You're the son of the Trickster—the one who outwitted Hades himself. The former god of knowledge, Yani... also known as the God of Greed. His obsession with forbidden knowledge led him to forsake his powers—just so he could live a quiet life with a family. He never expected his son to inherit divine power."

Yami: "My father was a god...? That explains why he always avoided talking about my grandparents."

Dagger: "Exactly. But now it's time you begin training. The path ahead is long—and it'll take you far from here."

Yami: "If that's what it takes to protect this world… so be it."

[Yami rises and walks over to Sarah, her arms crossed as she waits silently.]

Sarah: "So... I assume you're filled in now."

Yami: "I am."

Sarah: "Good. The ones who attacked you—those thugs—were sent by your other counterpart. The Yami of this world. And he's much stronger… dangerously so."

Yami: "I understand. But tell me something... what's the purpose of a Guide?"

Sarah (smiling faintly): "First-name basis now, are we? A Guide exists to help someone reach their true fate. Like a key that opens the door to destiny—with every choice you make."

Yami: "So Misami... she's a half-blood, just like me."

Sarah: "That's correct." (She glances at the fading light outside.) "Let's call it a day."

[Sarah calls out to Yahiko, motioning for her and Misami to return to the car. Yami rides in the front seat, staring silently out the window, lost in thought.]

Sarah (softly): "No one must know about this place. No matter what."

Misami: "..."

Yami: "Fine by me."

[Elsewhere — within a shadowy factory, a man in a sleek black suit sits in the dark. A suffocating aura clings to the air as he speaks to a familiar figure—Yami Kaguro, the Yami native to this world.]

The Man (voice cold): "Where's the girl? Don't tell me you failed, Yami Kaguro."

Y. Kaguro (gritting his teeth): "Your little thugs couldn't even handle one brat. That's your failure, not mine."

The Man (aura spiking): "That wasn't a request. I gave you the job."

[The man's hand slams onto the metal table. The impact sends a shockwave through the room. Kaguro is launched to the floor, coughing up blood as he groans in pain.]

Y. Kaguro (groaning): "Damn it... fine. I'll handle it myself."

The Man (rising from his seat): "That's the spirit." (He begins to vanish into thin air.) "Keep your eyes on the girl. And this time... don't fail."

[With that, he disappears entirely.]

Y. Kaguro (wiping blood from his mouth): "Tch… I'll handle it, alright. I'll just kill the other me." (He pulls out a photo of Yami Saturo, a twisted smirk spreading across his face.)

Y. Kaguro: "Prepare yourself, Yami. Let's see which of us is stronger... you or me."

[A storm of purple energy begins to swirl around his body as the scene fades.]
