"Jill⊠don't tell me you're planning to get involved in thisâand actually go save that Yordle," Raviel said, lifting one eyebrow in mild disbelief. Of course she already knew what Jill's answer would be, but she wanted to hear it from her directly.
"Yes, Raviel. Please⊠don't stop me from doing this," Jill replied, clasping both of Raviel's hands with a determined look.
Raviel exhaled softly.
"Well, do as you wish. The spirits are already steering our ship toward the Yordle anywayâguiding the winds and waves in that direction." Her tone suggested she had given up arguing long before Jill even spoke.
"But you still need to be careful," Raviel added, her expression shifting to something more serious. "The humans on this world are stronger than you think. Their bodies are reinforced by the magic hereâif they truly train their physical strength, they can reach a level comparable to you even with your Super Soldier serum."
It wasn't an exaggeration. In a world where mana saturated the air like oxygen, even ordinary people could grow into monsters.
Raviel leaned in, tapping Jill lightly on the forehead. "So don't go throwing yourself around recklessly." Said Raviel, but If anything actually threatens her, she will definitely step in immediately. Of course she will not let anything bad happen to her sisters.
The spirit-lights around Raviel flickered in response, as if echoing her promise.
"Alright. Thanks for the warningâand don't worry. I can take care of myself," she said with full confidence before turning and heading below deck. She needed to grab her gearâher weapons and her nanotech suit.
For a moment, she considered using the weapon Aurelion Sol had gifted her⊠but decided against it. In the end, she only took a small knife, the one tool she knew she could rely on. As for bows, spears, swords, armor, and everything else the locals usedâshe wasn't trained with any of them, so she simply left them where they were.
"Miss Raviel⊠I want to help big sister Jill. Is that alright?" Sarah asked, looking up at Raviel with determined eyes.
Raviel tilted her head, one brow lifting.
"Hmm? Are you sure? This could get dangerous, you know."
But Sarah nodded firmly.
"Yes. PleaseâI know I can help."
There was something darker flickering beneath her voice. A bitterness. A seed of anger. After everything that had happened to her family, she carried a small, quiet hatred for the kind of people who preyed on the weakâlike these pirates.
Raviel noticed it instantly. She always did. But instead of forbidding her, she simply sighed and nodded.
"Alright then. Do as you wish. But be careful out there."
And just like that, only moments later, they saw itâa ship looming ahead of them, no more than a hundred meters away.
"There's a vessel up ahead," Excella announced, lifting the spyglass to her eye. Her expression shifted immediately. "Wait⊠what is that hanging over the side? Is that what a Yordle looks like?" she asked, sounding genuinely impressed.
Raviel nodded lightly.
"Yep. That's a Yordle. And⊠oh? Looks like he isn't alone. There's a cute little flying cat trying to rescue him."
Jill leaned over the rail to get a clearer look. She could see it allâthe panicked Yordle dangling helplessly over the water, the strange magical cat dodging pirate after pirate in an attempt to save him⊠and then the monstrous shadow rising beneath them.
A gigantic fishâno, a Gigalodonsâwas preparing to swallow them whole.
"Raviel, can you do something?!" Jill called out sharply. "Lookâif we don't act now, that thing is going to eat them!"
"Hmmm⊠alright, hold on for a second," Raviel replied calmly.
She raised her swordânot to slash, but as if giving a silent command to the ship itself. Magic pulsed subtly across the deck.
A heartbeat laterâ
BOOM!
One of the ship's cannons fired on its own, unleashing a thunderous blast that tore through the mist. The cannonball soared across the water and struck the Gigalodons square in the back of its head. The massive creature recoiled, screeching underwater before retreating in pain and vanishing beneath the waves.
The girls collectively exhaled in relief. The Yordleâand the little catâhad been saved.
"Alright, brace yourselves! We're about to ram them!" Raviel warned, her voice steady.
Jill, Excella, Abigail, and Sarah immediately grabbed onto the railing, anchoring themselves.
Thenâ
BRUAAAK!
Their ship crashed violently into the side of the pirate vessel, wood splintering and waves exploding upward from the impact. The pirates, caught completely off guard and with no time to brace, were thrown off their feet. Several of them were hurled into the sea, their screams swallowed by the crashing surf as they splashed into the water and disappeared beneath the waves.
After the two ships slammed together, Jill didn't hesitate.
"Come on, Sarah!" she shouted, and the two of them moved in perfect sync, sprinting forward before leaping onto the pirates' vessel.
Yuumi, Book, and the Yordle hanging above all watched the sudden chaos with wide, confused eyes.
"Wâwait⊠are they trying to rescue us?" the Yordle asked, unsure if he should feel relieved or terrified.
Yuumi and Book shook their heads in unison.
"I don't know⊠but it sure looks like it. Meow," Yuumi replied, tail twitching.
Down on deck, one of the pirates yelled in panic, "What's going onâare we under attack!?"
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Gunfire exploded across the ship as Jill and Sarah opened fire, trying to disable the pirates. But these weren't ordinary thugsâeach of them fought with unexpected endurance, refusing to fall even when shot.
"Huh⊠looks like Raviel was right. They really are tough," Jill muttered under her breath. She glanced to the side, seeing Sarah darting between crates and ropes with surprising agility, landing clean shots despite the chaos around them.
But the pirates retaliated immediately.
Bullets and blades flashed as they fired back with brutal intensity, forcing Jill and Sarah to duck behind barrels and wooden crates.
CRACK!
The cover shattered instantlyâpirate pistols here were insanely powerful, tearing through the wood like it was soaked paper.
Jill grit her teeth, firing again, managing to knock several pirates downâŠbut they staggered back up moments later, groaning but still enraged. They weren't hitting vital points, and Jill had no intention of killing anyone if she didn't have to. She simply didn't feel it was her place to take a life.
Sarah, however, was different.
She had already taken down four pirates who rushed her. The first kill had left her hands shaking violentlyâher breath uneven, her eyes wide with shock. It was the first time she'd ever taken a life. But as more pirates fired at her, survival instinct took over. She dove back into cover, chest rising and falling rapidly as she tried to calm herself.
"Get them! They're only two!" the pirate captain roared furiously, veins standing out on his neck.
Fifteen pirates armed themselves at once, grabbing pistols, blades, hooks, and anything else they could use. With loud battle cries, they charged forward in a wave of bodies, boots pounding against the wooden deck.
From the safer deck of the other ship, Excella watched the scene unfold, irritation rising in her voice.
"What is Jill doing? Why isn't she finishing them off?" she complained, crossing her arms tightly. "She's holding backâand now she's putting herself and Sarah in danger!"
Smoke filled the air.
Gunfire echoed.
Pirates surrounded them from every direction.
Jill and Sarah, now pressed against the broken remains of their cover, braced themselves as the incoming swarm of pirates closed in like a pack of predators sensing blood.
"Ahhh!" a pirate swung his sword toward Jill. But Jill reacted instantlyâshe holstered her pistol, brought up her knife, and knocked the blade aside before driving a hard kick into the pirate's stomach. The man flew back several meters, crashing into the deck and losing consciousness on impact.
Meanwhile, Sarahâalready exhaustedâfound herself backed into a corner by three pirates.
"HeheheheâŠ" their sinister laughter made her legs tremble.
"Sarah!" Jill shouted, trying to sprint to her aid, but a group of eleven pirates blocked her path, clearly intending to capture both Jill and Sarah alive.
"Book, we have to help them!" Yuumi cried, watching the women who had tried to save her now being overwhelmed.
"Can you free me first?" the Yordle askedâclearly wanting to jump in and fight as well.
"Ohâright! Hold on!" Yuumi said, lowering her head and biting at the ropes binding the Yordle.
Jill kept fighting as hard as she couldâbut then BOOM!
A gunshot rang out, hitting her from behind. Jill fell forward, gritting her teeth. Thankfully, the bullet didn't pierce herâher nanotech suit absorbed the impact. But that didn't mean it didn't hurt. The mixture of arcane magic lingering in this world interfered with the nanosuit, causing sparks to jolt across her body.
"Ahhhâ!" Jill hissed in pain as the electric sting shot through her nerves.
"Big sis Jill!" Sarah cried, trying to move, only for the three pirates to grab her arms and slam her to the ground.
Abigail watched her daughter in danger and clenched her clothes tightly, clearly intending to jump in and save herâbut suddenly her entire body froze. She glanced toward Raviel.
Raviel winked.
Abigail immediately understood. This was Raviel's doing. And she couldn't protestânot when this woman could literally bring people back from the dead if she wanted to. All she could do was hope the goddess would step in to save them. After all⊠wasn't her "sister" also in danger?
"You'd better not move," the pirate captain warned coldly, "unless you want to die here."
"Raviel, are you seriously going to just stand there while they're in danger?" Excella snapped, while holding Raviel's arm tightly.
Raviel gripped the hilt of his sword, ready for actionâbut then he realized something.
A small, adorable purple cat was already soaring straight toward Jill.
"Oh? Seems like I won't have to do anything," Raviel said casually. "Lookâour cute little cat's about to pull off something interesting."
Excella and Abigail both turned toward Yuumi, who was now soaring straight toward Jill. The little purple cat landed neatly on Jill's shoulder, and in an instant, shimmering magic wrapped around Jill's bodyâjust in time to block a pirate's incoming slash.
"Hey! Are you okay?" Yuumi asked, eyes wide with concern.
Jill blinked, startled not just by the sudden protection but by the fact that the cat was talking.
"IâI'm fine. Did you⊠do this?" she asked, staring at the glowing bubble surrounding her.
"Yup! That's Yuumi's doing," Yuumi said proudlyâspeaking about herself in the third person like it was perfectly normal.
Then, puffing out her tiny chest, she declared, "And as for you villainsâprepare yourselves! For you now face the Mighty Yuumi! Oh, and what was your name again?"
"Jill," she answered, unable to hide a small smile. Somehow the adorable talking cat made the chaos feel less terrifying.
"and Jill,!â" Yuumi began heroically, but then⊠did absolutely nothing. She remained perched on Jill's shoulder, frozen in place like a decorative plush toy.
Book fluttered beside her, its pages rustling as if embarrassed for her.
"What are you fools doing? Why did you stop?!" the pirate captain roared, waving his blade and urging his men forward again.
Meanwhile, the Yordleânow free from his bindingsâsprinted toward Sarah, clutching a wooden plank like a makeshift club. With a mighty swing, he smashed it against a pirate's head, knocking the man out cold.
Seeing the opening, Sarah sprang into action as well. She elbowed one pirate, then grabbed another by the collar and choked him out with surprising ferocity, while the blue Yordle engaged the third.
At the same time, Jill felt strength flooding back into herâmore strength than she should've had. Her muscles tingled with unfamiliar energy, and the pain from earlier vanished. She didn't understand the magic behind it, but she wasn't about to waste it.
She dashed forward, moving faster than she ever had before.
"Wooooo! Yeah! Faster, faster, Jill! You and meâwe've got this!" Yuumi cheered, bouncing excitedly on her shoulder.
Empowered, Jill cut through the remaining pirates with precision, knocking them out one by one until she reached Sarah's side.
"You okay, Sarah?" Jill asked, breathing hard but smiling.
"I'm fine," Sarah replied, wiping the blood from her nose. "Just a scratch."
"Don't worry! Yuumi will heal you, stranger!" Yuumi chirped, pressing her body against Sarah's cheek. Soft light radiated from her, and Sarah's wounds began to close almost instantly.
"Whoa⊠is this magic? Thank you, Yuumi. My name is Sarah, by the way," she said, introducing herself. Her eyes then drifted to the blue Yordle with curiosity.
"Haha! I'm Fizz. Thanks to you guys, I didn't end up as fish food!" the little trickster laughed.
The remaining pirates regrouped, gathering into a tight formation. They were clearly done fighting one-on-one. This time, they planned to overwhelm Jill and the others with sheer numbers.
Jill, Sarah, and Fizz tensed, readying themselves. Excella and Abigail watched cautiously from the other ship. The air thickened; the pirates were moments away from charging.
Yuumi narrowed her eyes.
"Book⊠quick. Open the final chapter."
Book floated upward, its pages spreading wide. A glowing symbol ignited on the open spreadâthenâ
SWIIISH!
A massive wave of arcane force burst outward, sweeping across the deck like a tidal surge. The pirates screamed as the magic blasted them off their feet, flinging them across the ship before slamming them into railings, masts, and crates.
Their bodies hit the floor one after another, unconscious.
When the last pirate fell silent, Book gently closed its pagesâits job done.
