NEXT MORNING

Zara lifted her arms into first position, knees bending softly into a slow plié. But her mind wasn't in the movement.

That line wouldn't leave her alone.

"...and she will be prepared to take you through the next chapters."

Prepared?

She shook her head, breaking the pose mid-motion.

"No, I'm not," she whispered under her breath, lowering herself onto her yoga mat. She rubbed at her calves, frustration weighing down her shoulders.

"I can't even get this stupid pose right. How am I supposed to take over someone's legacy?"

The silence in the room answered her with more pressure. She took a breath and stared at the ceiling.

"It's so hard to be you, Kaka," she muttered.

A soft beep broke her thoughts.

Her phone.

She leaned over and checked the screen.

A message from Kendrick.

Her stomach flipped. She'd been so absorbed in the book last night, she'd forgotten all about him. About Ethan— about the disaster of yesterday.
