Before Zion's mind and body were transported to a black void that he didn't recognize, his body had undergone some changes.
Although Zion had successfully altered the type of energy the nexus pool would spray into the middle world, it was still energy that came from the will of the world. This meant that while the energy would be connected to Luminera, it wouldn't be her energy.
Because of this, Zion wasn't able to absorb the energy the way he assumed he would be able to.
You see, his goal was to basically become a mini Nexus pool himself, breaking the boundary between realms while using the strength of the world to empower himself.
This, however, didn't turn out as planned. While he was still able to successfully absorb the nexus energy, the energy didn't merge with him or allow him to use its power. Instead, it dragged his entire existence to another plane.
