There were research projects they started in the 2600s that they predicted wouldn't be completed until the 3100s. There were some projects that had to be maintained with care if they were being used in the modern world, and in case their records were erased, they made several contingencies.
And most importantly, there was information Vita possessed that was absolutely vital, and it could only be told to individuals who carried the same mission as them.
