Chapter 5 - Trying

A few weeks later and I still haven't heard from my sister. "Lloyd, why is it taking her so long to give me an answer?" I asked.

Lloyd twitched his tail and cracked open an eye. "Stop pacing. It takes time to make decisions like this," he replied reclosing his eyes.

I looked at him. "It doesn't take a million weeks to make a decision."

"It's only been three weeks," he muttered. "Now go to bed."

Amanda started crying which gave me an excuse not to go to bed. I picked her up. "It feels like a million days."

"You said a million weeks."

I scowled. "Why are you not working with me on this?"

He sighed and sat up. "Look, we have no contact information for her and we have no idea where she even is. All we can do is wait."

"I'm tired of waiting!"

"I can tell," he grumbled.

"What's that supposed to mean?"

"For the last three weeks all you can think about is how you haven't had an answer from your sister!" He snapped at me irritatedly. "You've been ignoring our kids and focusing only on your sister's answer. I love you but get your head out of your ass and start focusing on everything else!"

I ground my teeth together. "I pay attention to our children."

"Barely. They need more attention than you've been giving, Y/n."

I fell silent for a minute. Have I been neglecting my other children? I made dinner, did laundry, and cleaned when I had to. But I haven't played with them and hadn't helped them try to get control of their powers. Dammit. I had been neglecting it. I'm supposed to help Lloyd train our kids. "Oh, Lloyd! I'm so sorry," I said.

He nodded. "I know. Just don't do it anymore. They need their mother."

"I know," I whispered putting Amanda back down in her crib. "I promise I won't do it anymore."

"Good "

My phone rang and I picked it up. "Hello?" I said.

"This is your sister, Jayden," a female voice said from the other side of the phone.

"Oh, hey. What's up?"

"I've thought about what you said and am willing to try and be sisters."

Excitement raced through me. "That's great!"

"So would I be living with you or...?"

I glanced at Lloyd and he shook his head. I sighed. "No, you'd have to stay somewhere close by. I'm sorry but I can't risk my family."

"That's understandable."

"Okay. We'll meet tomorrow at noon to talk and try to be siblings."

"Okay." She hung up.

I looked at Lloyd. "She wants to try!"

Lloyd sighed. "Okay. But remember your promise."

I nodded. "I'll remember, I promise."
