Chapter 55 - Rebuilding

"Your Eminence don't you think that such an action would cause unprecedented upheaval within the hives" Valerius said as several other nobles nodded in agreement

They couldn't speak themselves hence they resorted to simply following behind one who could. Turning to Valerius, the voice of the aristocrats, Bastion merely smiled

Despite the man's agenda to always maintain the interest of the aristocracy, Bastion still gladly employed him. He was an aristocracy after all, it was nice to have someone fighting for him while he fought for the commoner.

Besides, Valerius as Vice-Governor was a very competent person, after all it took some level of power and strength to make your family the backbone of an entire world's bureaucracy.

"I understand your worries and several measures have been taken against that," Bastion replied with a smile

"For now however, I employ you all to join me as we celebrate our soldiers and Mordaxis as a whole on our victory… even as the people celebrate, how could we not celebrate such an occasion?" he continued as he laughed

Picking up a wine glass that was close to him, Bastion raised it to the entire group and they responded in kind thereby marking the beginning of the event.

Out in the lower hives, Bastion had created a special group of underperforming soldiers who would perform for the crowd, Hololiths were used to broadcast the plays, songs and more that were performed.

There were several reenactments of the battle but set up in a mocking way to showcase chaos as some incompetent group. It was a decision that brought great worry to him considering what he knew of this world but at the same time, hearing the laughter that resonated from the people. Bastion too smiled.

He didn't have to worry too much about the future now after all the plan was working as intended. Now all that remained was proper preparation before the inevitable.

"My lord don't you think that this may bring about many unforeseen circumstances" Selene asked

Looking at the lady who was dressed smartly, almost like a modern person, she was the only person in the room that sort of understood what he was trying to accomplish

"It will, it most definitely will but it on its own is a way to fight"Bastion replied

"Victory Day" was a planet wide celebration that he mandated through the Ecclesiarchy and even with help from the Mechanicus for a very damning reason.

He may not know much about the so-called ruinous powers or chaos in general but he was someone who had come to understand something. The warp was the very foundation of both chaos and their reality.

That foundation was affected by faith, belief could move it to achieve several effects. His prayers had proven that and thus he planned to weaponise that.

By making his population celebrate the victory they had achieved by mocking Chaos in its loss, they were stirring the warp.

The people may not genuinely believe it after all they had been taught to fear chaos and its agents all their lives but their laughter sent ripples through the warp.

"You can feel it, can't you?" Bastion asked as he turned to her properly

There was a subtle blue glow in her eyes that Bastion found interesting, it was her powers at play.

Selene was a psyker though low level considering that Dresk had saved her and used her to spy on him but after the augmentation, her powers were now much more refined.

"I can't answer for sure due to your presence but I can feel a whole new sense of hostility against us but I can no longer feel the same oppressive aura anymore" Selene replied

"Then it's working" Bastion said before focusing on the minor play that was unfolding before him.

He couldn't trust what she said fully considering that he had found out that his presence seemed to have some effect on psykers as well so the result may be skewed a bit.

It was a risky move but one he planned to double down on as it was the only way to establish Mordaxis as an independent planet in this chaotic universe.
