Chapter 74 - Chapter 74: The Underground Blood Battle and the Appearance of the Monster

"Close the passage!"

Han Zhongguo watched closely, noting that the mutated dog was moving at incredible speed, already halfway to the passage. He quickly shouted.

"Boom!"

A few people, who had already prepared, pushed a spiked framework into the passage and secured it tightly with other materials, effectively sealing off the entire passage.

"Woof! Woof!"

The mutated dog charged too quickly and collided headfirst with the sharp spikes. It let out a painful howl, and the framework wobbled from the impact.

"Kill!"

Seeing the success of their strategy, Han Zhongguo shouted in triumph.

"Thud..."

Dozens of homemade long spears shot out from both sides of the passage, their sharp points piercing the mutated dog's body at multiple locations. The dog screamed in agony, but it was trapped and unable to turn around, as the spears relentlessly stabbed into its flesh. In a few moments, the mutated dog collapsed into a pool of blood.

"Oooh..."

As the mutated dog fell to the ground, the crowd erupted in excited cheers. Smiles spread across everyone's faces. They had killed the mutated dog, and it seemed that these creatures were not as fearsome as they had imagined. This victory instilled even more courage in the group.

Courage is a strange thing; it can enable even the weakest person to suddenly unleash great strength. Earlier, the people had been terrified at the thought of facing the mutated dogs, but now, after successfully killing one, they realized the dogs were not invincible. Their courage grew rapidly, and they began to feel invincible themselves, forgetting the terror they had experienced just moments ago.

"Woof! Woof!"

At this moment, the first mutated dog finally understood that charging into the framework was futile. It instead directed its attack toward the passage.

"Boom!"

This foolish mutated dog crashed into the first one, causing the framework to shake again. However, it was not much better off itself, as the long spikes pierced through the body of its fallen comrade and struck it as well. It howled in pain.

"Thud! Thud!"

Before Han Zhongguo could issue another command, the people holding long spears from both sides of the passage raised their weapons and thrust them forward. The sound of metal piercing flesh echoed as the mutated dog, trapped in the passage, was struck by several more spears, eventually ceasing its howling.

"Boom..."

Just as the group was about to rejoice, a massive crashing sound erupted. The pile of debris blocking the door collapsed, completely opening the entrance. Five mutated dogs surged through the now-wide opening. If this had happened earlier, the group would have fled, but after killing two mutated dogs, their courage was at its peak.

"Woof! Woof..."

When the newly arrived mutated dogs saw their fallen comrades, they immediately began to howl. Their bloodshot eyes, now filled with fury, glowed even brighter as they charged into the passage with renewed ferocity.

"Boom..."

The immense force of their bodies caused the entire framework to shake violently. Despite the collision causing the angle iron to deform, the framework held firm, and the group breathed a collective sigh of relief.

"Thud! Thud..."

The mutated dogs rushing into the passage hadn't yet broken through the framework but were immediately met with attacks from the long spears on either side. They yelped in pain, their howls filling the air.

"Woof! Woof..."

At that moment, the light at the entrance dimmed, and another dozen or so mutated dogs charged in. Seeing their companions under attack, they joined in the relentless assault. The force of so many mutated dogs attacking the framework was immense. The structure groaned under the pressure, the angle iron bending further. It seemed that the framework might collapse at any moment.

"Open fire!"

Han Zhongguo quickly realized that these mutated dogs, after undergoing their transformations, were far too terrifying. Not only had they grown to massive size, but their strength was also overwhelming. With each charge, the framework was severely deformed, and its stability was rapidly deteriorating. Fearing it might not hold much longer, he ordered the police stationed near the framework to fire.

"Bang! Bang!"

"Woof! Woof..."

The sounds of gunfire rang out, with bullets flying like raindrops, striking the mutated dogs. The creatures howled in agony, their cries growing louder, but they could not reach the people behind the framework. Instead, they continued to slam into the structure, which creaked under the strain. The police had no choice but to keep firing.

After several seconds, the gunfire stopped. Ten mutated dogs lay motionless on the ground, their blood pooling across the floor, flowing into the mall. The group exhaled in relief, and the police wiped sweat from their brows, exchanging grim smiles. They had emptied most of their ammunition in the brief exchange, with some officers having fired nearly twenty rounds. The remaining bullets were few, and this was only the first wave of mutated dogs. The crowd was well aware that at least thirty more were still waiting.

"Woof! Woof..."

As the saying goes, misfortunes come in pairs. A new round of dog barks echoed, and the entrance darkened again. Another dozen mutated dogs charged into the space. Upon seeing the bloodshed, they howled even more fiercely.

"Awooo..."

An even more powerful wolf-like howl echoed from outside the entrance.

"Boom..."

The debris at the entrance was torn apart like it had been struck by a vehicle, shattering into pieces. The entrance was suddenly flooded with light, and the obstacles were completely destroyed. Sunlight poured in, illuminating the underground mall.

The mutated dogs paused their howling and turned to look toward the entrance, and the people behind the framework stopped their actions as well. Everyone's eyes were fixed on the entrance, unsure of what was happening.

Suddenly, the light at the entrance dimmed again, as if something had blocked it. A massive shadow appeared on the ground, and everyone held their breath.

"Huff, huff..."

A low, guttural breathing echoed, sounding like the wind through a bellows or a monstrous growl deep within a creature's throat. The sound made everyone's hearts race with dread.

"Ah! A monster!"

Someone in the crowd screamed in terror as a massive beast's head emerged from the entrance. Its head was larger than that of a lion, with two blood-red eyes glowing in the darkness like spotlights, casting an eerie light. Anyone who looked into its eyes felt a chill run through their bodies.

The creature slowly stepped into the entrance, its massive form resembling a small mountain. Standing over two meters tall, it barely squeezed through the doorframe, its body exceeding four meters in length. As it fully entered the doorway, the light from outside illuminated the underground mall, revealing the terrifying true nature of the creature.
