Chapter 14 - Shadows Closing In

The night was restless at the Dike mansion. Mr. EddieDike sat in his study, his fingers drumming against the wooden desk as he thought about Watson's report.

The connection between Blue and Mr. Skinner was unsettling, and the more he thought about it, the more urgent it felt to uncover the truth.

His wife, Lady Lily, entered the study, her eyes filled with concern. "Eddie, you've barely touched your food. What's wrong?"

"It's about Blue. Watson traced her back to Skinner. I don't know what it is yet, but I have a bad feeling."

Lady Lily's eyes widened. "Skinner? That name alone is trouble. You don't think she—"

"I don't know," EddieDike admitted. "But I need to find out before Thorndike gets too involved."

She placed a hand on his shoulder. "Be careful. And whatever you do, remember we haven't told Thorndike about the assassination attempt. I think we should let him.

Not yet, I think we should get more information about their connection, before letting him know. As for now, he must remain unaware." Say EddieDike

Lady Lily nodded. "I know. The less he knows, the safer he is."

Meanwhile, Thorndike was completely unaware of the growing storm around him. His thoughts were solely on Blue. He had sensed something was off the last time they spoke. She seemed distant, as if carrying a heavy burden she refused to share.

Determined to understand, he decided he was going to visit her.

As he grabbed his car keys, his mother's voice stopped him.

"Where are you going at this hour?"

"To see Blue," he admitted. "I need to talk to her."

Lady Lily hesitated, then smiled gently. "Take your time with her, Thorndike. Sometimes, people have secrets they aren't ready to share."

He nodded and left, unaware of the secrets his own parents were keeping from him.

At Mr. Skinner's mansion, Blue sat in her room, gripping her phone tightly. The events of the night still haunted her. The warehouse meeting, being introduced as Mr. Skinner's heir—it all felt like a nightmare she couldn't escape.

A knock at her door made her jump. Jack entered, his expression unreadable.

"We have a problem," he stated. "Someone is after you. Mr. Skinner wants answers."

Blue's heart pounded. "Who is it?"

"An agent. Name's Mark. He was tracking us last night, but I took care of it."

"Took care of it?" she echoed in fear.

Jack smirked. "Relax. He's still alive. But now he works for us. He spilled everything—someone hired him to investigate you.

So I'm here to ask you, what did you do? And what have you been up to lately, you know I have always watched you right from when you were a child. So tell me and don't lie to me.

I did nothing wrong and I haven't done anything wrong, while she spoke in fear. You are after me, she asked?

Jack refused to answer her, because he knew she was lying, and he was wondering how Mr EddieDike knew her, he wanted answers.

They're digging into your past. They're looking for something. Or someone."

Blue's breath hitched. She wondered who was after her. She grew suspicious and it could only mean one thing—her past was dangerously close to being exposed.

"What does my father want me to do?" she asked, trying to steady her voice.

"He'll tell you himself. But for now keep your head down. For—you're no longer just a spectator in this game. You're a player now. And the stakes just got higher."

As Jack walked away, he decided to keep a close watch on her.

Blue felt her world closing in.

Thorndike was looking for answers.

EddieDike was searching for the truth.

And Mr. Skinner was making sure no one got in their way.

Little did she know, the buried past was about to resurface in ways no one expected.
