Chapter 2 - The Curse of Unlucky Lives

I sighed heavily. My body was still shaking from the chase, but I already knew where I was. The white glow around me was unmistakable, as was the presence of that entity.

" Okay… where do I start? "

The entity crossed its arms impatiently.

"You already know the answer."

I rolled my eyes. Yes, I knew. This wasn't the first time we'd met. Or the second. Or the third.

" My first life was in my original world. It was a modern era, just like any other civilized planet. I lived normally until the day I was… well, crushed. "

The entity arched an eyebrow.

"Crushed?"

" Yes. By a guy who jumped off a building. "

He sighed.

"Yes, I remember that. An absurd death for someone who still had 100 years of life left."

I nodded. At that moment, when I first opened my eyes in this white void, this entity explained to me that I still had many decades left. To make up for my premature death, he would give me another chance — I could reincarnate and make a special request.

And what did I ask for?

" A perfect body. The pinnacle of my species, strong, agile and resilient. "

The entity laughed.

"And what happened?"

I swallowed hard.

" Well… I reincarnated as a man in a futuristic world full of space wars. Life was actually good… until I was 18, when I was forced to enlist in the army. "

I crossed my arms, frustrated as I remembered.

" Then I was killed. By a laser cannon. "

The entity let out a long sigh.

"Yes… another ridiculous death."

" Hey! That thing went through an entire building before it hit me! "

He just shook his head.

"And then you came back."

I nodded.

" And I made another wish. I wanted to be the smartest person in my new world. This time, I was reincarnated in a medieval village, without magic, but with a brilliant mind. "

I paused, remembering the peaceful times in that village.

" I cured an old man's illness and… well… people decided I was a witch. "

"And they persecuted you."

" Exactly. And then we're back to the beginning. "

The entity stared at me for a long moment before speaking:

"You've noticed the pattern here, haven't you?"

I crossed my arms and snorted.

" I never lived long enough to enjoy anything! "

"And you never found love."

My mouth opened, but I closed it right away.

" Right… I've never been in love either. But that's not the point!!! "

He laughed, shaking his head.

"Look, I'm a divine being, but even I'm tired of seeing you here. The last visitor who wasn't you arrived 250 million years ago. You need to learn how to survive."

I was silent for a moment. He was right.

I took a deep breath and stared at that glowing figure.

" So… I want a third wish. "

"Of course."

I smiled.

" I want luck that defies the gods. "

The entity blinked, surprised.

"Really? That's it?"

" That's right. "

He sighed, massaging his temples.

"Okay. Have a good life."

And just as my vision began to close, I saw something unexpected.

The entity… smiled.
