This time it's not the narrator but me. (Yeah, the author.)
So, this chapter is just about the world Magnus has come to. There will be some spoilers here and there, but if you want a less confusing read later, you might want to take a look now.
First, the world's name is Eryndale. That's the name of the whole world. It's divided into 4 main realms — plus 1 more.
1. The Human Realm — covers about 34% of the land.
2. The Elven Realm — covers about 14%.
3. The Demon Realm — covers about 42%.
4. The Beastkin Realm — covers about 10%.
+5. The Celestial Realm — this one's a bit different. It's a realm above the sky, floating across the world, except above the demon lands (because of, well, obvious demonic reasons). The celestial race is the strongest if we're talking average one-on-one against any other race.
Now, about the era. You might've noticed from Alexander's clothes or the general vibe, but we're in a magic and steam era. Magic isn't super common, but it's not rare either — let's call it uncommon in a balanced way.
If you're comparing it to Earth, think of the early 1900s.
The biggest human kingdom is Velnius, followed by Rainsworth (which, by the way, is where Alexander comes from), and then there are other smaller ones.
In Velnius lies the capital, Osheid — complete with the usual fantasy clichés: magic academies, elite schools, royal academies… you name it. That's what you get for being the most prosperous kingdom.
The other realms?
The beastkin realm is mostly just beasts with leaders, not much civilization.
The elven realm has proper civilization, but still not as advanced as the humans.
The demon realm doesn't need much civilization — but oh, they have some gorgeous architectural marvels.
The relationships between the realms are generally good — except when it comes to demons and celestials. Yeah, those two don't get along.
Of course, not everything's perfect. Slavery still exists (elves, beastkin, even humans), along with other dark sides of the world.
And the oceans? They're ridiculously dangerous. Except for the one Marianne crossed, they're ruled by terrifying creatures:
1. The Shattered Abyss — ruled by Vaelgron, the Leviathan of Broken Depths.
2. The Embersea — ruled by Pyrelis, the Blazing Serpent.
3. The Frostveil Expanse — ruled by Glaciera, Queen of the Frozen Deep (yep, Marianne came through this one).
4. The Umbral Tides — ruled by Nyxxar, the Shadowfin Sovereign.
Blah, blah, blah.
If you guys want any more details, just ask. Though honestly, I doubt y'all will.
