Chapter 38 - The End of a Deception

Kira's body reacted on pure survival instinct.

Swap!

In an instant, she vanished—replaced by a large boulder from across the chamber.

CRASH!

Yami's scythe tore through the rock like paper.

Stone shards exploded in all directions, slicing through the air—

But Yami didn't even flinch.

His blackened eyes locked onto Kira as she reappeared, panting, sweating.

"That should've been impossible."

Even at her fastest, she could barely swap away.

If she was even a second slower…

She swallowed hard. "Dammit… I didn't think he'd turn into a complete monster."

But her voice was shaking.

Because she knew.

She was out of tricks.

This wasn't a fight anymore.

It was a hunt.

And she was the prey.

WHOOSH!

Yami lunged again.

Too fast.

She swapped herself with a rusted helmet from the dungeon floor—

But Yami had already predicted it.

The moment she reappeared, his scythe was already swinging—

SLASH!

Pain exploded through her arm.

Blood sprayed across the stone.

She staggered back—her left arm dangled uselessly.

Her eyes widened.

"H-He cut me? That's not—"

She had swapped away at the last moment.

She should've been untouchable.

But he had still cut her.

Even her ability couldn't keep up anymore.

Kira gritted her teeth, pressing a hand against her wound. "Tch... Damn freak."

Yami didn't answer.

He was already moving.

She tried to swap again—

But nothing happened.

Her blood ran cold.

"What?!"

Then she saw it—

Dark chains.

They coiled around her shadow, twisting and pulsing with a black aura.

A shackle of pure death.

She couldn't swap anymore.

Her power was sealed.

She froze.

For the first time in her life—she felt true despair.

Yami raised his scythe.

No hesitation.

No mercy.

He was going to kill her.

"Wait!" Kira screamed. "I was just following orders!"

He didn't stop.

She tried to crawl backward, but her body wouldn't listen.

"Yami, listen! I—"

SLASH.

Her voice stopped.

Her head hit the ground.

The rest of her body followed.

Kira was dead.

But Yami—

Didn't stop.

He kept walking.

His scythe dripped with blood, but his blackened eyes didn't waver.

He was still in a rage-fueled trance.

Still hunting.

Still looking for something to kill.

Rei, Lina, and Rachel could only watch in horror.

Rachel stepped back, trembling. "H-He's not stopping…"

Lina clenched her fists. "It's not enough. Even after killing her, he's still—"

Rei took a deep breath.

Then—

Lina ran straight toward Yami.

Rachel's eyes widened. "LINA?!"

Rei tensed. "Wait, you'll—"

But Lina didn't hesitate.

She grabbed Yami's face with both hands—

And kissed him.

Everything stopped.

The air grew silent.

The black aura froze.

The tension snapped.

For the first time since the fight began—Yami's body went completely still.

The darkness around him wavered…

Then—

It shattered.

Like breaking glass, the black tendrils crumbled into nothing.

His scythe, once pulsing with dark veins, returned to normal.

And Yami—

Finally—

Collapsed.
