Chapter 8 - The morning after

Technology tree, also known as Tech Trees are the sequence of buildings that must be created to get certain upgrades in an RTS. This can also refer to the progression of upgrades that one can get in a game, which in turn unlocks new technology for the player. This can refer to skills, weapon upgrades or unit upgrades.

The specific reason as to why Isaac was set on placing the corpses in the barn is to absorb them into his system. "The bones can be used to upgrade weapons and armor, but the flesh itself can be absorbed and turned into biomass for new units."

[The barn has absorbed 35 Murlok Militia, 35% absorption complete for the Murlok base unit.]

[The barn has absorbed 8 Murlok Enchanters, 51% absorption complete for Murlok base unit.]

"The spellcasters are 2% each while the regular militia are at 1% per body. The larger ones should be the best then, if all it counts is biomass." Isaac was waiting by the barn, once the barn has fully taken in the biomass he was ready to shovel in the next ones. "Make sure to find the crystals inside them. We'll need those for our new building."

[The barn has absorbed 10 Murlok Berserkers, 91% absorption complete for Murlok base unit.]

"4% for a single one, just a bit more and I'll have my own Murloks to order around."

Unit creation was a hidden feature that he found after looking at all of his blueprints. The default basic unit that his barracks can create are humans, but this didn't mean that he was forced to only use humans. He kept the information to himself because he had no way of testing it back in the bunker.

"Unit list"

Basic Swordsman 1x

Basic Archer 2x

Basic Spearman 1x

Current Number of Units: 4

"And everyone's injured aside from the Archer who stayed up at the watchtower. How many Magic crystals did we get from these fish-heads?" He looked towards the swordsman, who was acting as his butcher.

"16 in total, My lord."

"Perfect, We can save the rest. Give me 10 of them." Isaac could finally build an arcane tower. The first one he built back in the bunker was destroyed. This is the best building he could have for defense at the moment.

Arcane Tower - 30 Wood, 75 Stone, 10 Magic Crystals

Wood and stone were important, but the Magic Crystals were something that he's been waiting for. The Arcane tower stood directly next to the barracks, in the space between it and the training facility.

[Arcane Tower] Tier 1 Building

A small tower of arcane origins, anything considered hostile by the creator will be struck with a magical bolt. So long as it stands, any opponent within a 50 meter radius, will be struck by the bolt at a rate of 1 shot every 10 seconds.

The ball of magic is about the size of a tennis ball, while having a speed equal to one at top speed from a professional player's serve. The appeal came from it's automatic nature, he didn't need to put a unit there or even aim.

"We're close to getting enough materials, seeing as they're more aggressive at night. If we had enough troops now would be a great time to strike back." He thought out loud. "But that's just the thing, we don't. You've made things a lot easier Noctis, but as of now… striking back is the dumbest thing we could do."

The bodies that he sent into the barn have wholly disappeared, while the corpses of his old troops are now being buried. "The bones are not part of the tech tree, I guess iron is really the way to go if I want to upgrade anything else. Well even if I out them into the barn, they'll just stay for storage."

"It's time to test out the scroll that Sir Gristlethum provided us." Isaac was hopeful, hopeful that something useful would arrive. Having seen the more powerful summons that Gristlethum had, he knew of the potential.

"But potential and actual results will be different." The scroll soon activated with just a drop of his blood. Mana was an unfamiliar source of power, his system utilised something similar but he never had any direct contact with it aside from seeing it being used by those from Verund.

Despite not originating from a world with the resource, he felt the tugs of the realm's soul. Breathing in mana for the first time and just as soon as he breathed out, he felt all of it dissolve.

[Your Elemental Summon has arrived.]

[Congratulations on unlocking mana.]

[Your elemental affinity has been unlocked.]

"But of course, if their fuel is mana then it only makes sense for me to unlock that as well."

"Status"

Title(s): 301st Generation, Novice Engineer, Strategist, Survivor.

Name: Isaac

Original Realm: Earth

Mana (New): 12/500

Affinities (New): Water

System: Optimized building management and creature spawning (Advanced and able to be upgraded)

There it was, his status screen was just a whole slew of titles before, now he had a stat that the Verund locals and Maja had. "I think the old man also unlocked it through an item, but what matters most is you right now."

In front of him, the ethereal body of the spirit. A wave of cold enveloped him as he looked at the Spirit of water, it was only the size of his palm yet the spirit now in the shape of a sparrow gave off an aura of power.

He had a lot to do before the second night arrived, with less units than the night prior tensions were high.
