There was a rushing of air behind me as Tomoe began flying after Clarissa. The witch had a large head start, but Tomoe was fast, faster than I'd expected from her.

She was gaining on Clarissa when I turned back towards the Fallen Angels.

A shriek of frustration accompanied a large gust of wind that scattered my flame wall. Two irate Fallen stepped into the newly freed space and stared me down.

"Devil scum!" the man screamed, rearing his hand back and entering a javelin throwing position.

A spear of pure white light appeared in his grip, coalescing into a glistening javelin the color of a clear summer sky. With a grunt of exertion, the Fallen hurled his spear at me.

Coating myself in flame, I dodged right, leaving my flame behind. The flame coalesced into a flame clone, something I had yet to use in actual combat, that was almost immediately impaled by the light spear.

The clone was knocked backwards, but otherwise was left unharmed.

With a mental command from me, the clone pulled the spear out of its stomach and twirled it around experimentally, the light magic that normally burned devils on contact having no effect on my fiery duplicate.

"Well that's good to know." I idly said aloud as I held my hand out towards the two slack-jawed Fallen, unable to comprehend the sight before them.

Seven whip-like tendrils of flame shot out of a spell circle before me and snapped towards the two Fallen Angels.

The man noticed them moments before they connected, his eyes widening in panic as he flew upwards to avoid them. The woman was not so lucky.

The flaming whips wrapped around her body and wings, searing into her flesh and causing her to scream in agony.

I closed my fist and the fire hardened into thick chains, dragging the Fallen to the ground under their weight, completely immobilizing her.

The male continued to fly higher until my whips faded, then dove towards me like a hawk towards a field mouse, two blazing white swords appearing in his outstretched arms as he screamed a warcry.

I drew my sword from its place at my waist and flew up to meet him, easily deflecting his enraged strikes and scoring a gash in his stomach.

The Fallen gasped in pain and tried to create distance between us, but I didn't let him. I fell upon him and blew one of his swords out of his hand with a blast of Wind, deflecting the other away to give myself an opening to impale him.

The Fallen's expression was full of disbelief as he began to cough up blood. He raised his hand and a spark of magic ignited within it.

Before he could complete whatever he was attempting, I tore my blade free of his stomach and cut off his head. His body plummeted lifelessly out of the air.

I turned my attention to the cound form of the female and flew down to land directly in front of her. I flicked the sword she had conjured away with the tip of my own sword, stalking closer towards her.

Immobilized by my chains as she was, all she could do was look on in fear as I approached.

"Impossible." she said, her breaths coming in gasps. "A devil can't–"

I pressed the tip of my blade up against her throat and she immediately quieted, the faintest tremor of fear quivering through her.

Activity picked up around us as several devils emerged from the thoroughly ruined church, Yubelluna among them. My queen, having noticed the display, stepped up beside me.

"What is your intent with this one, my king?" she asked, staring down at the bound Fallen in disgust.

"That depends. Are any of the other Fallen still alive?"

"No. Both the Fallen and the human exorcists with them are dead."

"Then we're keeping her alive." I said. Serafall would likely appreciate someone who could walk her through how to use the Sacred Gear Extractor, as well as someone who knew about Kokabiel's plans, even the likely small amount he told a Fallen no-name like the one bound before me.

"What do you intend to do with her?"

I looked up and saw Sona descending towards me, her queen, Tsubaki at her side.

"I'm going to hand her over to your sister. She probably doesn't know much of anything useful, but I'd rather make the attempt than risk being wrong and killing her prematurely."

Now that the Fallen was surrounded, I felt it was overkill to keep my sword against her throat, so I pulled the blade away and sheathed it.

"Yubelluna, make sure she can't slip the chains around her. I put them on her in the middle of a fight, so it's likely there are weaknesses."

As Yubelluna set about carrying out my orders, I walked over to Sona and said, "Is there anything else of interest in the church?"

"No, my lord." Tsubaki answered for her king. "There is a subterranean section, but it was empty."

"My lord."

Sona and I turned and found Clarissa and Tomoe advancing towards us, the pentagram still in Clarissa's grasp.

I noticed Clarissa slip a circular piece of clay into a pocket of her robe, but it was likely nothing more than one of her components.

Now that she was closer, I was able to get a better look at the Sacred Gear Extractor. The circle was normal enough, but each bar that made up the star was melted at the ends, fused into the circle at the outskirts.

"Well done, Clarissa." Turning to Sona, I said, "I don't mean to be rude, but I need to get this and the prisoner to your sister as soon as possible. We can't risk losing it."

Sona nodded. "I understand. I will finish up here."

"It was a pleasure working with you, heiress Sitri." There were a few things I would have done differently, but overall she was a capable Devil King.

Between Seekvaira and her, it was becoming clear that Rias was the exception, not the rule.
