The air in the innermost ring of the Bone Church was so heavy with high-grade mana and ancient, stagnant decay that it felt like breathing liquid dust.
They stood at the edge of the collapsed second sector, on a jagged, unstable precipice overlooking the vast, pitch-black subterranean chasm that served as the cathedral's final foundation. The only path forward was a single, ancient stone bridge, narrow and treacherous, leading toward the High Altar.
The floating altar itself was gargantuan—a circular platform forged from solid, polished obsidian, held in place against the heavy gravitational drafts of the abyss by six massive iron chains, each one thick as an ancient oak tree, extending into the darkness below. A perpetual, roaring vortex of swirling dark red blood-clouds and trapped violet soul-fragments churned violently above the altar, illuminating the final inner sanctuary with a sickly, pulsing radiance.
