Kayla and Calvin were locked in a hushed conversation when she spotted Christian's car pulling into the compound through the living room's glass door.
She shot Calvin the "time to get in character" look, and rose just as Christian neared the entrance.
"Babe!" she squealed, abandoning the comedy show they'd been pretending to watch and rushing to the door.
Christian caught her in a hug, their lips meeting briefly before they walked in together, his arm wrapped possessively around her waist. Calvin's hands curled into fists at his sides as he watched.
"Calvin," Christian greeted warmly, stretching out his hand.
Calvin stood, forcing a tight smile as he shook it.
"How was your trip?"
"Hectic, man. But I'm just glad to be back with my baby," Christian said, squeezing Kayla's waist. She smiled up at him.
Calvin laughed; a brittle, unnatural sound.
