Mia Foster thought she must have seen it wrong and moved aside from the customer standing nearby to take another careful look.
On the escalator opposite, Oliver Shaw stood side by side with a young woman, with a girl of about seven or eight standing between them, holding both their hands.
If they were just standing side by side, Mia Foster might interpret them as strangers riding the escalator to the floor above, but from her perspective, she could clearly see that the girl seemed to be talking to both of them, and Oliver Shaw, looking down at the girl, had a rare gentle smile on his usually stern face.
Perhaps sensing the intense gaze from this side, the woman next to Oliver Shaw turned her head to look over, and reflexively, Mia Foster straightened up and held onto the escalator, facing forward without looking sideways.
Luckily, a plump lady stood next to her, and by standing up straight on purpose, she probably couldn't be seen.
