Violet Zimmerman was sound asleep, oblivious to Joseph Lancaster's lips pressing gently against her lower abdomen. She leaned against the bed, sitting semi-upright, her head tilted toward the direction of the door, with her arms naturally resting beside her.
Joseph Lancaster kissed carefully, his thin lips just touching the small protrusion on her belly. As soon as his lips touched it, the tiny mound disappeared, only to reappear momentarily in another spot.
Watching the little mound shift positions continually, Joseph Lancaster unconsciously smiled, his phoenix-like eyes filled with unprecedented emotions—the gentle and kind warmth of parents watching over their children.
Perhaps weary from crouching, Joseph Lancaster switched to a kneeling position, his warm lips once again landing on Violet Zimmerman's belly. Cautiously, almost reverently, he gently moved his lips, leaving soft kisses.
