Joseph Lancaster was discharged from the hospital that day. His health wasn't really an issue; as the doctors confirmed, it was a case of being overwhelmed by stress. Coupled with his mother's constant nagging at the time, he fainted in a state of irritation.
On the way back, the three people in the car had their own thoughts.
It was evident that Violet Zimmerman was uncomfortable, so Joseph sat in the front passenger seat, leaving the entire back seat to her, occasionally checking her reaction through the rearview mirror.
Still, Violet wasn't much more comfortable. Most of the belt marks were on her buttocks and the root of her legs. Even holding onto the handle above the car door to share some of the weight, the newly scabbed wounds were painfully sore.
