Kevan lowered his hand, as if he had come to some realization.
Maher, along with Jocadu, watched him from the side, feeling uncomfortable. No matter what, Kevan was still their companion. For the youngsters, such a separation seemed somewhat cruel. They had all thought about it; if Kevan couldn't leave, they would stay behind.
At worst, everyone would be stuck here.
Maher even thought darkly in his heart that maybe Brand would also stay. He had seen the young man's dilemma. He thought, with such a big shot—Brand had completely met the standards of a big shot in his mind—staying here with them, what was the big deal if they stayed here?
