The leading knight stopped, took a deep breath of the bloody air, and raised his hand to halt their pursuit. How many ambushes had they encountered along the way? Chasing was meaningless, as they hadn't caught any valuable targets, and besides, their own task was the most important.

All the knights stopped, checked the vicinity, then bent down to wipe their longswords on the dead bodies before sheathing them.

No one spoke during the entire process, and only the sounds of the war horses snorting could be heard—

The leading knight's grey eyes scanned the battlefield, taking in the corpses scattered all over the ground—there were no significant markings on these noble private soldiers to indicate which side they belonged to, nor did they carry any banners. They seemed more like a group of well-trained bandits—though no bandits would be this well-disciplined.
