That word "mom" she called out was so soft, so soft it seemed the wind could carry it away in one breath.
Yet, even though it was faint, Lady Wei still heard it, and heard it clearly.
Her eyes snapped wide open, nostrils flaring slightly, a mix of surprise and joy, "Xinyan..."
But Dong Xin Yan didn't look at her, somewhat at a loss, she said to Gu Ningyi, "Gu Ningyi, shall we go?"
Gu Ningyi was a bit surprised too, but quickly composed himself. He nodded, responding softly, then wrapped his arm around Dong Xin Yan as they headed towards his car.
He opened the passenger door, rested his palm atop Dong Xin Yan's head, shielding her as she got into the car, then walked around to the driver's seat, sat down, and started the engine.
As he shifted gears, his dark eyes unconsciously glanced at Lady Wei who still stood dazed at the doorway.
