"I don't understand why Mother took her side," Queen Fortuna muttered as they entered Rosalind's room. Her heels clicked sharply against the marble, echoing her anger. "She can't keep getting away with this. Katrina needs to be put in her place."

Rosalind sat at the edge of her bed, shoulders heavy with something deeper than frustration. "I'm used to it," she said softly. "You should be too. Mother always picks someone else over me. She always has."

"She shouldn't," Fortuna snapped. "You're a princess of Xylonia. You and Rania are the heart of this family after Mother. Why would she choose a nobody's daughter over you?"

Rosalind looked down, fingers curling into the bedsheet. "You'll never get it."

But Fortuna kept going, pouring wine into a cup and handing it to her. "Katrina is building something. Slowly. Carefully. And one day we'll wake up and realize she's already taken everything."
