I watched them walk away to their separate tents, getting ready for the race. But something didn't sit right with me. This whole thing wasn't just a random game. I saw the moment Queen Fortuna stood and whispered something to the maid. It was her idea. Lord Rowland looked confused at first, and before he made the announcement, he turned to me for silent permission. I had no clue what Fortuna was planning, so I blinked, and that was enough for him to go ahead.
"A horse race?" Rosalind's voice pulled me out of my thoughts. She looked just as surprised. Then she smiled faintly and said, "No one's going to beat Queen Fortuna. I can't wait."
"You want Fortuna to win?" I asked, trying to understand where she stood in all this.
"Yes, brother Karl," she replied with a little huff, crossing her arms. "Wouldn't you want your queen to win?"
