We can't go on like this," Katrina whispered, stopping me just when I was about to lose myself in her. Her voice caught me off guard. She hadn't said a single word from the start, just followed my lead. And now, when we were already too far in to turn back, she was pulling away.
My heart dropped. "We should, my love," I said quietly, hoping she'd change her mind, hoping she'd still want me the way I wanted her. But the look in her eyes told me she had already made her choice. I took a breath and let it go. "Fine."
She turned around slowly, her gown slipping back over her skin as she faced me. Then, without a word, she wrapped her arms around me and held me close. "Anyone could walk in," she murmured against my chest. "I'm not comfortable here."
