Xavier was kneeling in front of the main building when we arrived. My heart skipped the moment I saw his face. The pain from last night was still there, sitting quietly in his eyes. Everyone believed he brought this on himself, but I didn't want to believe that. I couldn't say the death of his family was entirely his fault. Someone inside this palace caused it. And that person would never get away with it.
"Finally, you came to see us," Lord Rowland said, standing beside Xavier. He had asked for the king's permission so Xavier could speak.
"Your highness, I came to redeem myself," Xavier said, his hands behind his back.
The king said nothing. He didn't nod or speak. He only stood still, waiting for Xavier to speak, waiting to hear his truth before passing judgment.
