I rushed out of my room, my heart pounding so loudly it echoed in my ears. I tried not to think the worst, but that scream had already shaken me. One of the women said it came from Mother's room.
A cold shiver ran down my spine when I saw the door wide open. That door had never been left open like that before. Something was wrong.
I tried to move closer, but my legs felt too heavy. I didn't understand what was happening to my body. Rania ran past me, heading straight to her mother's room.
I forced myself to move. Maybe I was wrong. Maybe it wasn't what I feared. I stepped into the room—and stopped.
Sabrina stood there, frozen. Angelina was on her knees, her face soaked in tears. The scream must have come from her.
My heart sank.
Even though this was my first time stepping into this room, I already knew where the queen mother usually sat. I looked in that direction... and there she was.
