Hearing the phone ring in his pocket, Easton Holmes immediately thought it was from Lily Turner, who was rushing home. The unexpected call brought him back to cold and rational calm.
He withdrew his outstretched fist and took out the buzzing phone from his pocket.
As he had guessed, the call was from her. He answered, "Just stay home and wait for me. I'll be back soon."
Easton didn't let Lily speak first, nor did he intend to let her say anything. After his words, he was about to hang up, but he heard her say from the other end, "If you're busy, come back in the evening."
After rushing home, Lily searched all over but couldn't find any trace of Easton. She thought he had gotten anxious waiting for her and went to the Military Department.
Initially not intending to disturb his important work, she worried he might get angry, so she called him, wanting to explain briefly over the phone.
How things would develop, she would think of a way to solve it later.
