Staring at the phone for a moment, Alice Turner hung up on Benjamin Shaw's call. But as she was about to put away the phone and leave, it rang once again.
She picked it up and looked at it; it was still Benjamin Shaw calling. She hesitated for a moment, then reluctantly answered the call, "What..."
"Why did you hang up on me?"
Alice Turner hadn't even finished her last word when Benjamin Shaw's dissatisfied voice came through the phone, rudely interrupting her.
She didn't have any resentment towards the man on the other end initially, but hearing him question her like this only deepened her dissatisfaction and resentment towards him. "I was just sleeping and accidentally hung up when I picked up the phone."
She lied not out of fear of the man on the other end, but because she didn't want to dwell too much on this issue with him.
