The letter didn't contain any specific commitments. Mia knew Kevin had written it this way on purpose, but she didn't make him rewrite it. It was all part of a game, and neither of them took it too seriously. Mia didn't naively believe that a letter would have much effect. She just hoped it would make Kevin think twice before acting.
Seeing Kevin's glass was empty, Mia poured him another. But Kevin didn't hold it properly, and most of the hot water spilled onto Mia's thigh, sending up a cloud of steam.
Mia cried out in pain, dropping the glass, which shattered. Her thigh burned, and she almost fell. Kevin quickly supported her, helping her to the bathroom. He took the showerhead and sprayed cold water on her thigh for five or six minutes until the pain subsided. However, her jeans were soaked. Kevin helped her back to the bedroom so she could change.
