Chapter 71 - I can't tell you

Kai leans over the bathroom sink, digging his fingers into its edges as if it's the sole thing that keeps him anchored. He remains in his award show attire, makeup smudged from sweat and agony. The things he hurled at Noah resound louder now amidst the quiet.

Abruptly—

Ash bursts through the door.

Eyes wide. Breathing shallow.

Ash: "What the hell was that, Kai? You could've at least given him a chance to talk—"

Kai spins around quickly, his tone a blade:

Kai: "He left me to rot, Ash. Twice."

Ash: "And you expect this—" (flailing his arms) "—to fix you? You're bleeding, man. Not just him."

Kai doesn't respond. Just swallows hard.

INT. NOAH'S PLACE – SAME NIGHT

Noah sits bandaged and alone. Pong kneels beside him, silently cleaning the wounds on his legs.

Pong: "You need a doctor."

Noah (hardly above a whisper): "I need him."

Pong looks at him—exhausted, not sure if he should shake him or cling to him.
