Chapter 261 - Chapter 260

"See, Harry," Ron explained, "at the time they're talking about, Hermione was still right there with us in our Charms class!"

"And get this, Macmillan told me Hermione's never missed a Muggle Studies class, but that one always clashes with Divination."

Ron leaned in conspiratorially, "The weird thing is, Hermione's never missed Divination either, has she?"

Macmillan, for those who might not recall, is the pure-blood wizard from Hufflepuff who had that spat with Harry last year and ended up getting petrified by Hermione. He eventually saw the error of his ways and even apologized. Now, he's actually on pretty good terms with Ron and Harry.

Dylan knows Macmillan too. The chap has a lot of respect for Cedric. One time, Dylan and Cedric were chatting, and Macmillan was just sort of standing nearby. Both Dylan and Cedric figured he was just passing through or wanted to be there. But once they finished talking, Macmillan approached Cedric; turns out he wanted to ask Cedric a few things about the professors.

Speaking of Cedric, that boy's been popping by to chat with Dylan quite a bit lately. He always claims he wants to "exchange magical insights" with a fellow prodigy, but the moment they start talking, the conversation does a complete 180 and veers straight into how two people, a couple, should get along. Cedric keeps sharing little anecdotes about his interactions with his girlfriend, practically force-feeding Dylan a steady diet of mushy romance. What's even funnier is how this big bloke gets all shy when he talks about these things – the contrast is truly something else.

Now, Dylan had said he wouldn't do any more Divination readings for Cedric and Cho Chang, or try to predict how their future together would unfold. However, when it comes to little sweet nothings couples say, or small surprises that can pop up in a relationship, or even fun little games that can help couples bond, Dylan will tell Cedric whatever comes to mind. He's seen tons of that stuff, you know. And with the way times are changing, people in the internet age are a bit... well, abstract, to say the least. So, some of the thoughtful little interaction ideas Dylan's picked up and shared with Cedric—whether it's a sweet line, a surprise, or a fun game—always make Cedric's eyes widen.

Honestly, Dylan wasn't really all that interested in dating before. But teaching Cedric how to navigate romance, and then hearing Cedric's feedback time and again, listening to all the little details he'd share... Dylan actually found himself, for once, thinking that perhaps finding a partner wouldn't be so bad after all.

And while it's true that young wizards this age can be a bit immature in their thinking, not everyone has completely naive ideas. Take Luna, for example. Her thoughts aren't just novel; in some ways, they're remarkably mature. Plus, he and Luna are on pretty good terms now.

But whether there's potential for something more? Well, that's not just up to Dylan. What if Luna isn't even thinking about dating, or if her heart belongs to someone else? So, he figures it's best to just let things happen naturally.

Not to mention, Luna is still just a young girl. Even though he's a kid himself, Dylan feels like it would be a bit odd to start dating now. So, if he were really to consider it, he might be more inclined to date Vera, or even Delphini, or perhaps Rowena Ravenclaw herself. Of course, this is just him thinking about who might be suitable characters for a relationship; it's not like he actually harbors any romantic feelings for them. And even if he were to date one of them, there would definitely be quite a few issues to contend with.

For instance, only his other self could truly get along with Delphini. And he can't exactly sneak out of school every day to go on dates, can he? That would be far too much of a time-waster. And then there's Rowena Ravenclaw – she's an absolute bombshell! While she has her own independent thoughts and personality, ultimately, the Rowena Ravenclaw he's thinking of right now is merely a person transformed from a portrait.

Honestly, only Vera, Florean Fortescue's daughter, seems like a genuinely suitable option. But he's barely even met her! Is he supposed to just walk up to her and suddenly blurt out, "Hey there, fancy going on a whirlwind romance with a third-year little squirt like me?" That would be utterly daft, wouldn't it?

Dylan gave a slight shake of his head, then gently set down Harry's essay. He'd only written enough to help Harry pass Professor Snape's inspection; no need to fret too much over it.

He turned to Ron, tilting his head slightly. "Why are you so invested in Hermione's business? You even went and asked Macmillan if she'd missed Muggle Studies?"

Ron's face froze, a blush creeping up his cheeks. "What? I'm not invested in her business at all! Don't you dare slander me..." He cleared his throat, muttering, "I was just a little bit curious, just curious! How could she possibly finish the class if she wasn't even there? Aren't you curious?"

Dylan chuckled. Of course, he knew how Hermione managed it; in fact, if he hadn't pushed those classes off, he'd probably have even more homework himself right now. But Ron digging into Hermione's schedule that thoroughly... was it really just curiosity?

He pursed his lips and repeated, "Just a little bit curious?"

Ron, face reddening, nodded emphatically. "Yes, just curious, a little bit curious."

Dylan gave a slight nod. "Well, if you say so, I'll tentatively believe you."

Ron's eyes widened slightly, and he stiffened his neck. "Dylan, you say that like you don't believe me at all!"

"That's right, I don't."

Ron was speechless. He couldn't come up with any explanation, and eventually just gave up. Dylan handed Harry's essay back to him, then, having finished his own book, headed straight back to his dormitory.

Ron and Harry were deeply saddened by Dylan's departure. With Dylan around, they could just ask him whenever they ran into a problem they didn't understand. But now Dylan was gone, and Hermione was busy scribbling away, completely absorbed in her own homework, so they couldn't exactly bother her. This meant that from now on, whenever they encountered something they didn't know, they'd just have to grit their teeth and figure it out themselves.

After Dylan returned to his dorm, he decided to grab a bite to eat. But instead of going to the Great Hall, he planned a trip to the Hufflepuff kitchens. He was hoping to transfer the magic from the secret oven there. Dylan had studied this oven before and knew it contained many cooking spells. He wanted to create an "assembly line" for food, and those spells would be incredibly useful.

He'd just reached the kitchen door when he saw Luna approaching from the other direction. Dylan paused, a little surprised, then smiled at Luna. "What are you doing cooking here yourself? Didn't you have enough dinner?"

Luna's lips curved into a faint smile when she saw Dylan. "I did, but I had an incredibly delicious chocolate grape pie in the Great Hall, and I was thinking I might try to replicate it."

Dylan nodded. "You mean that new dessert they've got? I tried it too, it really is good."

Luna walked up to Dylan. "And you? What brings you here?"

Dylan chuckled. "I'm thinking of creating a food assembly line, so I came back to study that secret oven again."

Luna blinked. "An assembly line?"

Dylan explained, "It means we wouldn't have to lift a finger, or even put ingredients into an oven. We'd just press a button, and a delicious meal would appear right on our table."

Luna tilted her head at his words, her hair falling softly past her ears, making her fair cheeks appear even more delicate. "That sounds incredibly convenient! But building something like that must be quite a hassle, right?"

Luna's first reaction wasn't to wonder why Dylan had such an idea, nor did she think he was lazy for not wanting to even prepare ingredients or cast a simple spell. She didn't even think his idea of a food assembly line was excessive. Instead, she was helping Dylan consider that the process of building it might not be simple.

Dylan paused, a slight smile playing on his lips. "It's not entirely simple, but it's not overly complicated either."

Luna nodded gently. "In that case, might I have the honor of helping you build this assembly line?"

Dylan looked at Luna, a little surprised. "You're interested in something like this too?"

Luna's expression was calm, but her eyes sparkled. "Yes, wizards who want to cook conveniently usually research a cooking spell. This is the first time I've heard of a wizard wanting to create an 'assembly line' that can deliver the food they want just by pressing a button."

"If you don't mind, I'd like to research it with you."

Dylan didn't refuse; instead, he nodded. "Then let's do it together. I've pretty much laid out the spells anyway. If we just re-examine the spells in the oven and tinker around a bit, it should work out."

The two walked into the kitchen, heading straight for the corner. Some Hufflepuffs were bustling about in the kitchen, and many turned to look as Dylan and Luna entered. Dylan smiled and greeted them.

Luna asked, "This 'assembly line,' it's not an actual physical line, is it? For you to press a button and have food appear, it must rely on some sort of equipment, like the secret oven?"

Dylan understood Luna's meaning. "That's exactly right. Taking the oven as an example, right now we need to put the ingredients in, and then it cooks and processes them itself."

"What I want to create could be an oven, or a pot, or even just a bowl or a plate. Whatever we want to eat would just appear on the plate. That's what I'd call a food assembly line, and we wouldn't need to specially prepare ingredients anymore."

Luna's eyebrows were light, and her voluminous hair, which reached her waist, looked a little messy but gave her an untamed, effortless beauty. "I understand," she murmured, nodding slightly, her gaze thoughtful.

Meanwhile, as they walked side-by-side through a corridor lined with copper pots and reached the corner of the kitchen, they found two people already there, perched in front of the secret oven, staring intently at the food cooking inside.

Dylan raised an eyebrow, curious, and walked over. "Cedric? Didn't you two have enough dinner either?"

Hearing the voice, Cedric and Cho looked up. When they saw Dylan, Cedric's eyes lit up. "So late, and you're back here again? Are you treating our house kitchens like your own personal pantry now?"

The girl beside Cedric also turned around. It was indeed Cho Chang. "Dylan? Hello." Cho's black hair was smooth, looking freshly styled, and lay loosely over her shoulders. She had very typical East Asian features and was the Ravenclaw Quidditch team's Seeker, truly beautiful with bright eyes. She'd met Dylan before, but they weren't particularly familiar, nor had they spoken much.

Dylan smiled at her. "Hello, Cho."

Cedric stood up and helped Cho to her feet. Seeing that Cho seemed somewhat interested in Dylan, even glancing back and forth at his face, which was arguably a bit more handsome than his own, Cedric suddenly felt a pang of unease. He subtly stepped forward, positioning himself in front of Cho, shielding half of her body, then looked at Dylan and Luna.

"My housemates told me they've seen you two coming to our kitchens together quite a few times. Are you two...?" Cedric's gaze flickered between Dylan and Luna. "Are you on a date as well?"

Cho's gaze shifted over Cedric's back, also looking at Dylan and Luna. As a Ravenclaw student, she naturally recognized Luna, who didn't interact much with others in the house, and, frankly, wasn't very popular among the other Ravenclaw students.

As for Dylan, while they weren't close, she'd heard his name mentioned many times. A student favored by all the House Heads, even the notoriously harsh Professor Snape of Slytherin had praised him. He hadn't just avoided losing points; he'd frequently gained them. All of this made it hard for her not to remember Dylan's name.

And besides... her boyfriend, Cedric, would often bring up Dylan's name in her ear. Sometimes, after their dates, Cedric would tell her that this particular date, or the little game they'd played, had all been taught to him by Dylan. There were times she wasn't sure if she was dating Cedric or Dylan...
