Chapter 200 - Merlin’s New Student

— — — — — —

In the vast northern border, someone had coated the land in endless snow and ice stretching for hundreds of miles.

The earth? It was completely frozen.

At the center of all that stood a blue-haired girl, her presence commanding. Dozens of massive ice pillars—each over ten meters tall—shot up from the ground, forming a dazzling forest of crystal under the sun.

After summoning this grand spectacle of towering spires, Esdeath raised her Sword high into the air.

With a single command, the pillars shattered into shimmering fragments.

Armored knights—clad in ice, wielding blades of frost, mounted on equally majestic warhorses sculpted entirely from ice—lined up in a perfectly ordered formation. Every rider and mount bowed their heads in reverence to their sword-wielding master.

『Earth's Cancer』: ✨_✨

『Earth's Cancer』: Damn, that's badass!

Watching through a livestream that felt like a high-budget movie, Chika Fujiwara couldn't help but gush from her front-row seat in the God's-eye view chatroom.

『Earth's Cancer』: So this is the power of Frostmourne, huh?

『Esdeath』: Technically, it's Frostmourne after Mr. Admin reforged it.

Esdeath, clearly not used to being observed like this, closed the livestream as soon as the demonstration was done. Then she explained further in the chat.

『(Admin) Veyron』: The sword itself was pretty interesting, so I kept some of its original features when I reforged it.

Originally, Frostmourne could awaken the dead and bring about a plague of the undead. Veyron had rewritten that functionality—converting its deathly aura into powerful ice magic. On top of that, he enhanced its summoning and control abilities.

Thanks to those changes, even though Esdeath hadn't yet become a proper Teigu user, she could still call forth tens of thousands of ice knights through the sword alone.

They weren't undead, exactly—but even if you shattered them into ice chunks, they could reform and keep fighting. Practically immortal, for all intents and purposes.

Oh, and one more thing—

"You don't have to be so formal around me all the time."

Veyron, who was still present in Esdeath's world, looked over at her. "To borrow a line someone once said to me when I first joined the group: just the fact that you were chosen by the chat group out of countless worlds… that alone means we're already connected. That's enough of a reason to be friends."

"…Understood, Veyron-sama."

Esdeath nodded seriously.

Veyron: "...…"

From "Admin" to "Veyron-sama," huh…

Looks like she respects my strength more than my title.

He sighed and let it slide this time—no point arguing about honorifics.

After all, for someone like Esdeath—who was raised on the belief of survival of the fittest—it made sense. In her eyes, his overwhelming power could easily crush her entire world's hierarchy.

That said, Veyron wasn't the type to force people into his friend group.

If newcomers could get along naturally with the group's veterans, great—he welcomed new connections. But if they had their own way of dealing with people? He wasn't the kind to push them to conform.

『Earth's Cancer』: By the way, now that Frostmourne's all set, how's your own mission going, Veyron?

『[Admin] Veyron』: Unfortunately… this world doesn't have the kind of supernatural energy I'm looking for.

Seeing Chika's question, Veyron responded without much hesitation.

『[Admin] Veyron』: There are some terrifying creatures out in the far lands—beyond the territories of the northern, western, and southern tribes. Or deep within the eastern seas. Beasts that could be called natural disasters compared to ordinary humans.

『[Admin] Veyron』: They're more like the Sea Kings in Hancock's world. But unlike Hancock's world, where humans generally have natural potential to awaken things like Observation Haki or Armament Haki.

---

"Umm..."

"What should I do now? And how can I repay you for Frostmourne?"

Just as Veyron finished speaking in the group chat, he looked up to see Esdeath holding Frostmourne, clearly unsure of what to do next.

"Don't overthink it," he said calmly, offering her a reassuring smile. "Honestly, I always like to take a quick trip to each group member's world. It doesn't cost me anything. If I gain something from it, great. If not, no big deal."

Still seeing the worried look on her face, he paused, then offered her a task to give her some direction.

"How about this: the Empire in your world—its officials, nobles, and all those dirty little lackeys who serve them—they don't exactly seem... human, in my opinion."

"Once you get the hang of Frostmourne, how about you do some cleanup for me?"

Esdeath blinked in confusion.

"Cleanup…"

She got the gist. He meant that the ruling class of her Empire didn't sit right with him—and he wanted her to take care of them. Purge them.

But what exactly did he mean by "not human"? Was she supposed to wipe all humans?

"…Uhh."

Veyron could tell from her expression that her first thought was: "Just kill them all?"

He sighed and rubbed his forehead.

This girl had never really left the territory of the Partas Tribe after she was born. Raised by a chieftain father who drilled "the strong live and the weak die" into her from the cradle. After her tribe was massacred by northern savages, she'd wandered the world alone ever since.

Expecting her to distinguish who deserves to live or die based on whether someone is 'human enough'... yeah, that was asking too much.

"If you trust me," he said finally, "how about I send you to a kind of… 'school'? Somewhere you can train a bit first."

He added, "It's a place that also had its fair share of inhuman scum, though they've already been dealt with."

"And don't worry about the time difference. I'll open a space-time gap before you go. No matter how long you stay there, when you return here, it'll be like you never left."

"Understood," Esdeath replied without hesitation.

"Alright, I'll get things set up."

He pulled up the group chat and tagged Merlin. (Gotta manage the tuition fees lol)

『(Admin) Veyron』: @LadyAvalon, how's Lily doing in her classes (Cute_Artoria.jpg)

『Lady Avalon』: Not bad.

『Lady Avalon』: Compared to how she used to just skim through those textbooks like some idealistic dreamer, now… I'd say she's ready to be a proper king back in Britain. Honestly, putting her in charge of Hancock's world was the best decision we could've made.

『Lady Avalon』: So want to test her?

『(Admin) Veyron』: Not exactly. What I meant was—if your lessons aren't over yet, could you take on one more student?

『(Admin) Veyron』: It's like this....

『Lady Avalon』: Wait... Are you saying Esdeath's world has something like Celestial Dragons?

『Earth's Cancer』: Seriously? Celestial Dragons again?

『Snake Empress』: Cockroaches have more dignity.

『Catwoman』: Yeah, at least they die.

『(Admin) Veyron』: They aren't really the same.

『(Admin) Veyron』: In Esdeath's world, they don't have that "World Noble" status or all that over-the-top authority, but yeah in terms of what they actually do? Pretty similar. The only thing missing is a full-on 'purge every three years' kind of bloodbath.

『Lady Avalon』: I see...

『Lady Avalon』: Ok! I agree for little Esdeath

『Lady Avalon』: I'll send over a mission right now. Have her accept it when it shows up.
