"This is insane," Leofric said, running his hands through his hair in frustration. "You're my wife. Your place is here, with me."
"My place is wherever I choose it to be," Isabella said coolly. "I'm not your property, Leofric. I'm your wife, and wives are supposed to be partners. But you've made it very clear that you don't value my partnership enough to share important information with me."
"What are you talking about?" Leofric demanded.
"I'm talking about the fact that you lied to me," Isabella said, and for the first time, emotion crept into her voice. "I saw you with Miriam weeks ago in the training grounds. I asked you who she was, what she wanted. And you told me she was just an ex-mistress who was upset things didn't work out. You made it sound like she was being unreasonable, like it was nothing important."
Leofric felt his stomach drop. He had hoped Isabella had forgotten about that encounter.
"I didn't lie," he said weakly. "Everything I told you was true."
