Chapter 5 - The Capital of Curses: Tokyo

Strutting down the packed street, Nishi stretched in content as he sighed, his hands held behind his head as he walked. The crowd parted for him.

Never had much of a stomach for sushi in the past, too pungent, but modern Japan has truly evolved it into a divine art form... Nishi thought with a smirk, scratching at the back of his head lazily.

Groaning as he brought his hands down and stuffed them into his pockets, Nishi stepped past a large group, eyes plastering onto him as he passed which coaxed a smile to his face.

I love the feel of their gaze on me, like I'm the center of the world, but it's only natural- after all, I can see the truth of this world.

Glancing up with a smirk, Nishi put a hand over his brow, obscuring the sun as he looked at the surrounding buildings, "Tokyo truly is a marvel of engineering, had you asked me what I thought would come of this place 1,000 years ago, I would've never guessed this," Nishi said with a hearty chuckle.

Closing his eyes and taking a deep breath, Nishi soaked in the atmosphere, his ears perking up as he opened an eye, "Oh?" Nishi muttered aloud as he sensed a familiar sensation.

"Cursed energy," Nishi smiled as he batted an eye in the direction it came from, "North from here, a bit North-East."

Jumping up, Nishi clung onto a street pole, hanging off of it as he narrowed his focus to the direction he sensed the presence, "Two targets, a curse, and probably..."

Nishi suddenly glanced down, a bright flash of light bombarding him as he spotted a woman pointing a phone at him, loudly asking, "Are you cosplaying some character?"

Others looked at Nishi sharply, many more holding out their phones as he scowled, "This, I could've gone without," he grumbled as he leaped from the street pole, bouncing off of nearby walls as he sped off.

That other signature, it's very similar to a sorcerer, at least the sorcerer's of 1,000 years ago.

Soon, Nishi slid across a rooftop, stopping himself just at the edge as he came to a halt, overlooking a large courtyard. Surveying the area, Nishi quickly spotted his quarry, a big smile stretching across his face, "Sorcerer."

A little drizzle began as Nishi leaped from the rooftop, quickly assessing the situation as he thudded into the ground with a resounding echo, drawing the attention of both the curse and the sorcerer.

Eyeing the sorcerer, he took note of his injuries, superficial, all surface-level scrapes and bruises. The auburn hair of the sorcerer fluttered in the increasingly strong breeze, a shocked expression resting on his face as he stared on at Nishi, his unfamiliar uniform piquing Nishi's intrigue.

His eyes quickly darted to the curse, who still was clashing against the sorcerer, both of them shoving their hands into each other as they fought for control.

The curse was a brute with disfigured and spindly limbs, a set of freakishly long arms stretched out from its upper half, and a third arm over its shoulder that tried to desperately grasp at the sorcerer, narrowly grabbing at his collar.

"A-a sorcerer?!" He said, the curse breaking past his defenses and sending him sliding backward, the slick ground causing him to lose his footing and go tumbling.

Sliding out of harm's way, the sorcerer forced himself to a standing position, looking at Nishi as he shouted, hurling his hand outward, "Listen, I don't know who you are, but you need to get out of here!" The man shouted as the curse rushed at him.

The sorcerer reached behind his back, drawing a tonfa, noticing Nishi hadn't started running, before shouting even more harshly, "HEY, IDIOT, I SAID GET TO RUNNING!"

The sorcerer narrowly dodged a wide swing before clocking the curse right in the head with the tonfa, following with a jab straight to the jaw, before hurling one final right hook into the curse's jaw. The curse staggered backward from the rapid barrage, groaning in pain as it did, its eyes flashing with apparent rage.

The rain began to pour more heavily, and Nishi calmly watched the fight before him.

Perhaps he's just a lackluster sorcerer of this era, but even so, that curse can't be more than Grade 3, its body is even all out of whack so it's at a major disadvantage... Nishi thought with a hand to his chin, thinking to himself.

Before the sorcerer could dodge, the curse faster than expected moved, gut-checking the sorcerer promptly, dropping him to his knees before grabbing his head with both of his massive hands, quickly beginning to squeeze strongly as the sorcerer screamed loudly in pain, punching into the curses chest repeatedly as he cursed, "D-DAMNIT!"

Suddenly, purple blood spurted from stumps, the curse's arms severed roughly as if torn off, the sorcerer falling to the ground with a thud as he held his head in pain, panting as he glanced up, Nishi standing in between him and the curse.

"Dying to something so worthless is pathetic, you seriously were about to lose to this?" Nishi asked, glancing over his shoulder at the sorcerer.

The sorcerer looked up with spit seeping from the corners of his mouth, his hearing finally returning as he squinted in discomfort, hearing the blood-curdling scream of the curse which now writhed around on the ground, its stumps bubbling up new flesh.

Slowly looking up at Nishi, the sorcerer looked on stunned, "Who are you?" He asked with a bewildered tone.

"Silence," Nishi said as he turned back around, "I'm a bit disappointed this will be my first sampling of Tokyo, that goldfish was better than this," Nishi said with an almost audible scowl.

"You've thoroughly disappointed me, curse," Nishi muttered as he balled his fists up, ripping forward as he reinforced his muscles, grabbing the curse by the wrist in a flash, before launching his other hand forward, that same red heat pummeling into the stomach of the curse as it went flying, one arm lighter.

The curses flesh tore like tissue paper as it began to mutter, "S-sav-ve s-some-e c-as-sh!" It said with an almost human smile.

Launching into the curse, Nishi kicked the curse to the ground as it attempted to stand, planting his foot on the curse's face as he ground his heel into its cheek, "This brings back memories, I've lost count of how much trash I've done this to," Nishi said with a dark smile, glancing back to the sorcerer with an impatient look, "Finish your fight sorcerer," Nishi said as he took his foot off, walking back towards the sorcerer.

As Nishi walked past, the sorcerer saw a now much weaker curse before him, slowly it rose to a standing position, blood leaking from its injuries, blood gurgling up from its mouth as it scowled at Nishi, looking past the sorcerer.

The sorcerer looked on nervously, commenting, "T-thank you," before he sprinted towards the curse.

The curse swung wildly, its giant fist arcing straight over the sorcerer's head, missing entirely as the sorcerer clocked it straight in the jaw, the curse staggering as it dropped to a knee, the sorcerer not wasting even a second as he instantly put the curse on its face with a kick to the back of the head.

Thrashing, the curse tried to stand, before the sorcerer stomped on its head repeatedly, countless desperate stomps straight to the back of the curse's vulnerable body, before long breaching its skull, a gush of purple blood erupting out and showering the area, washed away by the rain that now pours over the area.

Standing calmly in the rain, the sorcerer breathed heavily, slowly looking behind him, Nishi leaning against a brick wall with crossed arms, the sorcerer wiping his mouth as he started shuffling closer, "Thanks, that curse was giving me some trouble," he said cautiously, apprehensive of trusting Nishi as he looked back to the nearly gone body of the curse.

"Grade 3's are a bit much for me right now, I'm only Grade 4, I wasn't even supposed to be fighting any curses right now, my teacher walked off..." The sorcerer muttered, clenching his hand around the tonfa as Nishi looked on disinterested.

"So grades are still in use," Nishi commented, unfolding his arms to scratch his chin.

The sorcerer looked on perplexed as rain dripped down his face, "Still in use...?" He repeated quietly, "H-hey, if you don't mind me asking, who are you?"

Putting his hands down, Nishi stuffed them in his pockets as he approached casually, the sorcerer stepping backward seemingly in instinct as Nishi smiled, halting his advance a mere few feet in front of him, "Names Nishi Obara," Nishi replied with a smirk.

Raising an eyebrow, the sorcerer looked on confused, "Nishi Obara," the sorcerer replied with a mutter, "What grade are you?"

Shrugging, Nishi waved his hand thoughtlessly, "Don't have one."

Looking shocked, the sorcerer replied quickly, "Seriously? You effortlessly could've exorcised that curse, are you a foreign sorcerer or something?"

Suddenly, Nishi seemed to eye the sorcerer, "I'm not interested in small talk, answer a question for me and I'll be on my way."

Flinching at the sudden hostility, the sorcerer quietly nodded, "Y-yeah alright, what's up?"

Thinking for a moment, he finally spoke, "Who is the strongest sorcerer in the world right now?"

Without hesitating, the sorcerer spoke plainly, "Satoru Gojo, without a doubt."

Nishi's eyes widened quickly, "Gojo," he muttered in reply, a big grin reaching across his face, "So that clan is still around, I remember when they were just starting out, that little offshoot..." Nishi said as he looked to the ground, stroking his chin as he vibrated with excitement.

"Does this Gojo possess the six eyes?" Nishi asked, barely able to contain his excitement.

The rain began to die down as the sorcerer looked a bit taken aback, hesitating before speaking, "He's the first Gojo in 400 years to be born with the six eyes and the limitless technique..."

Nishi froze entirely, his fingers only lightly twitching as his mind raced.

A six eyes user with limitless, that fiend Kenjaku always warned me that I should never face one. Nishi's grin vanished at an abrupt realization.

This may be the last chance I'll ever get in history to fight one...

The sorcerer sweated as he stepped back, startled at the sudden shift in the atmosphere, Nishi suddenly glanced towards him, quickly speaking, "You have my thanks, despite being a nobody you've aided me greatly," Nishi said with barely contained excitement.

Aside from Ryomen Sukuna, I doubt anyone could ever beat one of those, which is all the more reason that I HAVE to. Nishi thought gleefully, his heart beating out of his chest.

Putting his hands down, Nishi turned on a time, water splashing from his shoes, "You'll be seeing me around, sorcerer."

Nishi seemed to vanish from sight, the sorcerer looking on perplexed, as he jerked his head around rapidly, "Huh, where'd he go?!"

Leaping from rooftop to rooftop, Nishi quickly scaled the highest building he could see, the Tokyo Skytree. Hurling himself up one hand at a time, Nishi landed on the top gracefully, taking a deep breath as he felt the wind blow past him, exhaling loudly as his heart was thumping loudly.

None since Ryomen Sukuna, not a single one since then has left my heart beating so loudly... I think I like this new era, yes, this era is perfect. Nishi thought to himself as he smiled, overlooking Tokyo with glee.
