Chapter 1 - TOWN ON THE EDGE OF REALITY

LUCA

We finally moved away from that shit hell of a place and it was the best decision mom has ever made unfortunately she had not decided on it faster things would have escalated real quick but am glad we are finally here, not exactly sure where though. We shifted but more like ran away in a hurry and reached here first thing in the morning and it's so foggy, how cold is this place?. Ever since we stepped foot in here all i feel is the uneasiness that presses me down like a hand on my chest though not the kind of fear to make me jump. It's slower, heavier like someone is watching our every move but again i must be imagining it, just my nerves. It's just the mist, trees and the shadows that move when am not watching. I look to my side where i hope my mom is, she looks contented and relaxed maybe i should relax too something that am not used to.

When my aunt suggested this place nothing could have prepared me for this atmosphere, it's strange like this place has been stuck in time and caught between the modern world and something ancient. I guess this is where the ordinary meets the extra ordinary, i almost scoff to my thoughts. We pull our bags in our new home and am even surprised we have time to unpack, all we did was always running and am getting tired of running, i hope he never finds us here may he rot in hell for as long as i care glad i wont have to look at the excuse of a father whom i carry his blood. "honey how is it?" my mom asked gesturing at the house that screamed comfort unlike our old almost falling apart house "i guess it's good" i really don't know either but seeing the wide smile on mom that was just enough. I listen to her as she continues to rant on how she gets to use a bigger kitchen to cook all kinds of food she'd always love, how can finally relax in the living room without anything getting shuttered

...

Later that day after arranging the only necessary thing i move around the area just to get to cool breeze which surprisingly i have gotten used to and i love the peaceful quite place. I take my time studying around and i noticed how the people act odd around here, they seem to hiding something or maybe they are just minding their own business. I see a bunch of kids playing making me smile but again their parents gave me a skeptical looks dragging their kids away "they are absolutely hiding something" i concluded. Just as i turned back i noticed a place that i hadn't seen on my way here, it's eerie and out-of-place location looking abandoned if i call it like that, suddenly my curiosity perked up and having this urge of walking there and take the tinniest glimpse but before i could let my intrusive thoughts win i heard mom call out to me and immediately turned on my heels and away from that place.

...

We had the most amazing dinner to wrap up the day and I don't remember the last time I had good food, maybe the canteen from school. Mom didn't have time to make it having to deal with an alcoholic father all the time while I skipped dinner to lock myself in my room. "The neighbors were so friendly even though they don't talk much I didn't have a hard time to get through the market you know" she spoke like they have been the long lost friends unlike me who found them acting odd or I looked weird to them, of course I look no better than a beggar reminds me I need a new set of clothes one or two perhaps. Finishing up the dishes I wished mom a good night and headed to my new room. It just had a bed and my few clothes that were necessary just enough for a man to live by right? It almost felt empty like my soul and I was ok with it.

Shrugging off everything I sat down on the bed in my pajamas and looked out the window emitting the full glow of the moon, a very beautiful sight indeed. In a moment of silence a bunch of thoughts filled my mind as I looked back to everything, abusive father, bullies at school, debtors and neighbors who had nothing to do than judge us till the very end, the air was this always filthy choking to live breathing but here we are, no matter the odds I am lucky am here and ready to move on from everything..... With a peaceful mind I fell into a deep slumber hoping for a better tomorrow

...

Waking up to loads of breakfast on our door way wasn't something I had imagined, even after acting coldly I didn't think the neighbors would welcome us with a grand breakfast very thoughtful of them it made me smile bringing me almost to tears."See I told you they are very friendly neighbors and sweet" I couldn't agree more with mom she was right. "Dear do you know how handsome you look, remain like that always" she commented on my looks and I was like a deer caught in red lights "what do you mean?" I asked touching my face thinking maybe I had grown a moustache. Mom's laugh echoed through the table "don't be silly dear, I meant your smile been long since I saw that look on your face" I flushed in embarrassment not used to being told that "mom stop" I looked away but with a smile "you should smile too mom" she held onto my hand resting on the table "we got this" it was an assurance I wasn't sure but I was willing to try "now am hungry let's eat already"...
