"I'll do to you what I did to your people," he said, closing the distance between them slowly like a predator stalking its prey.

Edith instinctively stepped back, her jaw clenched tight. As much as she tried to push the thoughts aside, she couldn't. The mere thought of what her loved ones in Novara must have endured because of him—and the role his allies played in it—sent a surge of rage through her. The sight of his claws and fangs only confirmed what she had already known. He was a vampire. Her fury toward him—and toward Lord Magnus—intensified.

With the gap between them quickly shrinking, she realized there was no room left to fire another shot. Without hesitation, she shifted her stance, and her weapon responded—morphing and splitting in half until she held a dagger in each hand.

The moment he saw the transformation, he halted, eyes narrowing as he reassessed her.

'A useful tool to have,' he thought before lunging at her.
